Dude. Who could blame you?

This is all only my opinion.
Murderbot seems to act and express a lot more emotion than in the book, very early on.
Dr. Mensah and everyone else are portrayed in a really hippy-dippy, almost silly way, way too naive and goofy.
Random sexualizing of Murderbot by a character that went on way too long.
Those are the things that really stand out in the few eps/bits I watched.

The *inclusion* of scenes from Sanctuary Moon is awesome.

Ooh, good choice.

....links? Maybe? :D

I liked the books okay, but the movies really brought that story to life for me in a way the books never did. They're not 100% faithful, but I can live with most of the alterations. It's worth it to see Middle Earth in such gorgeous detail.

Favorite - the 1980s Anne of Green Gables adaptations. It kept the spirit of the books, had some excellent casting, and cut out the slightly repetitive parts. (We don't need to see Anne win over quite so many local curmudgeons.) There'll never be another Anne Shirley for me, Megan Followes was it.

da

lmaoooo 😂

I just cackled right now

DA, but this is the same tactic I take with the Star Wars Prequels. The over-the-top dialogue and inconsistencies with the original canon stop being annoying when you treat the prequels like a in-universe holodrama made after Episode VI. Instead, I get to imagine Luke telling Leia that he can't be jealous about not growing up a princess when she only had the Alderaanian royal guard watching out for her while he was protected by sand.

*dies laughing*

DA - I see two different types of push back. There's the "this show is problematic" push back that's due to a combo of 90s humor, Seinfeld being an ass and Michael Richards' racist meltdown. And then there's the people who are put off by Jerry Seinfeld himself being a mediocre actor and the least interesting character in his own series. I liked the show when it aired, but if I was going to recommend it to someone, I'd probably tell them to treat it like an ensemble show and warn them ahead of time that Seinfeld's the weakest link.

That's all well and good. Just make sure you don't also follow Daisy's example in other arenas. Like being a blank slate of a character that mainly exists for men to project their various ideals and insecurities on. Or, um, driving.

You might love this review, OP!

This was the first queer movie a pre-pubescent queer guy saw and it's still the hottest thing this gay man has ever seen.

So much yes. The 80s version is a great adaption. The newer version is not.

I 100% agree with you on everything here. I have issues with parts of the LOTR adaption. The takes on Gimli and Elrond are just wrong. But as a whole, they are just great movies. And I agree with you on Hobbit and ROP as well. Both have serious issues, but there are things about them I love so much. And as someone who shipped Sauron/Celebrimbor pre-ROP, I do love the take on the characters and that part of the story. The actors both knocked it out of the park.

Stop, I was never in the fandom but had to witness so much ship drama from people I followed for other fandoms... I forgot until now.

(Anonymous) 2025-06-27 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
I think I didn't like the books enough because I am enjoying the show. They are different, but I am having fun. But probably because I do not remember most of the plot and I hate constant parade of new absolutely bland faces in the books even if I understand the narrative choice. Probably I should make my own secret :'D

Agree!!
I would really like to get into fandom because of this ship. This ship is absolutely my jam and Winston Duke is ridiculously hot even for my ace ass.

I drink, but I understand. I stopped getting drunk at all because I don't like loosing control. Lol, I was in Amsterdam and never tried any of coffeshops because getting high seems even worse

That is true and was always my stereotype of Warhammer fans (proven correct over and over again). But! In the last 15 years or so, there's also a lot of new fans who are here for the ridiculous OTT grimdark and are a lot of fun. I recommend the regular Warhammer threat on [community profile] fail_fandomanon for recs and entertainment.

Warhammer :handshake: Shadowrun

Settings with bangin' lore and unplayable games.

(I've never looked at 40ks rules, I just dont even have that kind of money)

Re: Least Favorite

(Anonymous) 2025-06-27 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
I hate Howl's Moving Castle. I don't even think that it is a bad adaptation. It just strongly deviate from the original theme. But I hate how it overshadowes the book.

(Anonymous) 2025-06-27 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Fic varies widely from "is this kinky Porn or horror porn?" (Ma7) to the greatest fic you've ever read (Untouchable) and everywhere in-between. Not a lot of it though. And most of it is PrimarchxPrimarch or Space MarinexSPace Marine. Which isnt bad, just a little sad.

Why are the beacons impractical? They're based on real historical beacons in Wales and Ancient Greece. Do you mean because they were on the very top of the mountains rather than along lower ridges as in the books? That was just a cinematography choice, I think, since they were filming in a national park and weren't allowed to light actual fires anyway.
