Yeah, some fandoms really get into that loop. The good writers get bored with the lack of interaction and leave, the glurge writers get interaction and keep writing even more 9th grade woobies.

However, glurge writers don't have a long attention span before they run off to the next big thing. Check back in on the fandom in a few months and see what's going on.

Yeah, but you need good writers for that to start with!
Frankly it's mostly not about fanfiction but about big disconnect with a fandom.

I kinda wish when people complain about (presumably) out of character writing, they'd just, say that. Instead of being like "MEN can only have mental health issues stoically and self harm by like, drinking or whatever".

I mean. People can have all kind of mental health issues and reaction to it. But you do need to take social conditioning into consideration. 15 years old girl and 40 years old man and 50 years old woman are all going to have different reaction.

That's fine. That's what those writers want to write. How is it ok to complain about fics? You don't pay those people, you're not their target audience, they do it for their own enjoyment. The mod is right. At least r and r the fics you like if you want more of the same.

lmfao spoken like someone whose fandom has never been taken over by a fanon idea that spread like a virus. when fans take their cues from other fans in order to fawn and pander and hope senpai (BNF, clique, whoever is dominating the fandom space) notices them, it becomes a whole hell of a lot more than a writer writing what they want to read and posting it publicly.

I was a fan of a rare fanon, not canon for sure, and had to search for my version of OOC in FFvii. Fun times. I also liked the best fics with different characterisation but it didn't feel the same. I read them but didn't save for later.

I'm trying to remember any fandoms with a widespread OOC I don't like.

I do leave comments to fanfics I like. It just happens that this one fandom has NONE. FUCKING ZERO. They are all kids projecting their mental health issues or, for some reason, MPREG

I get this. So bad.
Agh! It's my biggest peeve when a great ship is just dragged down by writers self-inserting themselves, and making everything an OOC dramatic shitty mess. It only happens in a few of my fandoms luckily, but I just hate it when a great story with genuinely wonderful writing just screws itself by having a character have a panic attack or become completely suicidal when that's not in their character at all! It's the absolute worst, I agree!

I'd love to know what canon this is … I'd be very interested in reading fic about grown adults having unrealistically melodramatic mental health problems.
