don't give your doggo the Safeway store brand dry dog food, it's very ashy and doesn't have enough protein

I recommend all the generic frozen veggies. Once I had butter, salt, and pepper they all taste the same. Do no recommend store brand candies or Debbie cakes. They are never as good as name brand.

Yes to frozen veggies! So much cheaper and the same dang thing.

I had a couple of bad experiences with store brand broccoli being 99% stems (advertised as the florets or whatever the 'leafy tree part' of the broccoli is) so I shelled out for the expensive brand and it was the same dang problem! Guess it was just a bad time for broccoli *shrug*

Depends on the vegetable. Broccoli gets rather soggy when frozen. I tend to prefer it on the crunchy side.

Oh, I was just replying that the store brand frozen veggies are just as good as the expensive name brand frozen veggies.

As for the veggies themselves, I usually am adding them to curries or soups so they all end up pretty much the same fresh or frozen.

That makes sense. I may be weird about broccoli in particular, I just don't like it when soft. Texture is sometimes a big thing for me. Reason I hate cooked carrots. Broccoli can be cooked, but lightly.

Ever tried pan-roasting it? It keeps some crunch and a good seasoning rub really makes it tasty.

I can only eat roasted carrots or ones that are steamed but still al dente. Those are delicious and taste very CARROTY. :-)

Where I live the store brand gummies are about on par with the Haribo they sell as well, so at least on my end store brand sweets are just as good. Though perhaps not the cakes, brand name cakes tend to be just a tad nicer.

I actually don't like Haribo either. They have like a weird film on them to me.

Agreed. I buy several packs of frozen broccoli every week. Is it the most amazing way to eat broccoli? Well, no. But it's microwaveable and easy, and with some salt, pepper and a little butter, it's fine. I eat more vegetables this way than if I bought fresh and had to prep and cook it. I'm lazy.

Yeah, I'll occasionally get fancy and roast some veggies. But sometimes I just want to demolish a whole bag of corn. 🤷‍♀️

Oh yeah. I still use fresh for stir-fries, and roasted brussels sprouts and roasted broccoli are staples for me. But when I'm in a hurry or feeling lazy, nuking frozen broccoli is an easy side dish.

Walgreens brand things have always been as good or better than the name brand for me.

The Walgreens NICE products like nuts and dried fruit are really good.

Mmmm, yes. Baskin Robin beats it out for me, but it is my second favorite brand.

I do think Private Selection used to be better than it was (maybe like 10 years ago), but it's still GOATed when you get it on sale.

If you have an Aldi near you, try all their knockoff versions of stuff. Not everything is exactly like name brand, but a lot of it is close enough or different-but-okay and it's MUCH cheaper. They've got a dupe of Dave Killer's bread that's cheaper and great for toast or sandwiches, usually a decent price on milk/dairy, eggs, and reasonable cost on meat. A lot of people get scared off by the stigma of it being the place where poor people shop, but don't let that snobbery cheat you out of saving money in this friggin' economy. Bring a quarter and your own bags, though.
