I've done similar. If I came across a good bit of 'secret' or 'confession' or just even a wild take in a fandom space I'd sometimes make a secret and submit it. It wasn't mine, but it wasn't made up.

honestly that's probably good, OP. I don't get exposed to fandom meta much these days so if one of your friends/acquaintences/rando in fando has a really hot take, post it here so people like me know how weird it can get out there. I've learned so much about the kids in fandom from reading secrets and comments here, like wow, none of you would have survived YaoiCon 2005 without serious personal hangups.

This is very close to how I consume fic. I don’t bother with WIPs at all though. And I have written in the past but haven’t been inspired in years.

Yeahhhh. Maybe not quite as aggressive about it as you seem to be (tone in text is hard so idk) but I don't waste time on WIPs and skip 99% of authors notes and don't bother reblogging or anything. I bookmark, kudos, comment if I have something to say, and move on. Though downloading is more effort than I'll put in. I just read on ao3. I don't read fic anywhere else these days.

You do you, of course, gen! But reading this, I think about all the other secrets who talk about how fandom isn't like it used to be. Fanworks are now content, and everyone else are consumers, no one makes the effort in making it a community.

I'm guilty to a certain extent, there's a reason we feel like there isn't a point anymore. I want to keep trying, but I wonder if I'll also stop.

I don’t think that’s awful, but I am trying to do basically the opposite myself: actively commenting on the things I really like, especially WIPs, and leaving comments on multiple chapters.

I’ll comment on fic I really, really like but I haven’t read a WiP while it’s updating in well over a decade, most of them never get finished so I’ll wait for if they do.

I also write fic as well and tbh OP I’m not bothered if this is how you do things, it’s not my business how people choose to engage, or not, with my fic, but I’ll always appreciate those that leave a kudos or comment as it brightens my day just a little bit.

Do you mean in fandom (with trans headcanons and/or how canon nonbinary characters are written in fic) or is this about nonbinary characters in original fic?

I find it annoying myself when authors seem to think all nonbinary people are the same, or if the way they write a headcanon feels OOC, but I don't know the character in this secret or what fandom/s or canons you're seeing this in, so it's hard to say if I've seen the same issue you're talking about.

OMG a False Knees secret???!! I love False Knees and I absolutely adore Spores. Life After Life was so fun, but Spores is something I think about and reread.

(Bonus, over the years I've bought so many False Knees prints and love them so much and give them away to cheer friends etc up)

Yeah, current Trek stweardship seems to be running along the lines of "The fans love this thing that got suggested", "Okay, well we know we are not doing that then."

They seem to think spiting the fanbase is the way to go. I hate it.
