Kinktober

(Anonymous) 2025-10-05 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
The annual anti-Kinktober whining is as fun as it always is as someone who reads incest and ageplay fics while being ace. They never really know what to do with me.

I don't understand.

DA

Antis think that whatever you like to read or write about you absolutely must want to do in real life. An ace isn't going to be attracted to anyone, much less their family, making the accusation that they like to read incest because they want to fuck their brother or whatever false on it's face.

Yep.

AYRT

I love confounding them with real life. I'm two years older than my wife, and about six inches taller - oh noes, I must be a pedo with that age gap compounding the height gap; being with someone that much shorter must mean I'm actually attracted to children! - but I'm autistic and she's completely neurotypical so now she's the pedo because I'm apparently a perpetual child who can't consent to anything.

Antis are so fucking stupid.

I just tell them anyone who has called their partner daddy or mommy during sex is roleplaying both incest and an age gap.

Antis aren't worth this attention.

The types of people who get that granular and OTT with signifiers of "power imbalance" are generally one of two things: someone very young and inexperienced with real life relationships; or someone who uses moral-sounding pronouncememts to gain social power for themselves. Either way, they're not worth taking seriously.

Seconding the confusion from above. Please elaborate?

This is the first year where I'm seeing enough complaining about "kinkless Kinktober" and other similar phenomena that that is getting on my nerves a little.

If people want to run a "Kinktober" event that has little to no kink or involves weird rules about moral purity... ugh, I just don't care? Let them go over there and do their own thing. That's what a lot of us hoped for in the first place.

There are and have been plenty of October events that have nothing to do with kink. This is the first year where someone tried to put on a "kinktober" event, using the kinktober name, and then banned all the kinks, so....

I don't think it is the first year. I swear I've seen that for at least two years running now. And so by the third time around, I'm just a little tired of it.

I want to read and see fandom and kinky stuff, not snark about how the more puritanical fans are twisting themselves into knots in their own segregated events.

I hadn't seen it at all until the CaitVi debacle. Must be different circles.

Re: Kinktober

(Anonymous) 2025-10-06 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I def remember seeing some drama about it last year, but I don't think it took off.

Re: Kinktober

Well, it's kind of an advertising problem, right? If I tell people I'm hosting a clambake, and then when they show up, I say, "we will not be having any clams or lobster," they're probably gonna be annoyed, because the name I chose for my event created a certain set of expectations.

Same deal. If you call your event "Kinktober," that creates the expectation that it will feature kink. When people show up and get told there's no kink allowed, that gap between expectation and reality is gonna create some irritation. It's like a bait and switch.

I guess I can understand that perspective more. I do wish these people weren't using the term Kinktober, even if I get why they might think it's helpful publicity.

I felt like a lot of it was just sneering and complaining about other people doing an event that the complainers didn't want to be involved with in the first place. Which is also kind of reasonable. I bet it's a safer more specific way of venting frustration with anti-kink sentiments. It just gets tiring.

I love having freaks and perverts for friends (fellow ace and smut writer). I hear about the weird anti-kink events at a distance sometimes but then I get to write wild kinky smut for my dearly beloveds on the internet.
