Re: Weight Loss Injections

My partner has diabetes and does weekly Ozempic injections for it. I haven't noticed any real weight changes, but he gets fuller sooner so maybe it is happening.

I'm hesitant about weight loss drugs because once I stop using the drugs won't the weight come back on? I've gone through that cycle twice before and end up heavier than ever when the dust settles.

The weight will go right back on if you don’t implement lifestyle and diet changes. If you start eating healthier and exercising more while on the injections, you have a high chance of lasting success.

If it were easy it wouldn't be a trillion dollar a year industry. Once dieting/working out is no longer the largest focus in my life I have to live with being hungry/tired all the damn time while my body tries to go back to where I was. At some point I'd rather just be fat than miserable.

So... it's just a drug version of every other system out there.

It's much easier to complain about it being hard and how this or that won't work. I get it.

It will come back on once you stop. It's suppressing the parts of the brain that stimulate appetite, and once it's no longer there to do that, you will be more hungry. This is an issue already seen in people who no longer "qualify" for the injections since they've lost enough weight. As soon as they stop the injections, they're hungry all the time, regain the weight, and yo-yo.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I mean it's good if you're going to be on the drug for the rest of your life for diabetes (I don't know much about this drug) but I feel much better about not trying for it.

The drugs are an aid to help you with making diet and lifestyle changes. If you don't make the effort to change those then yeah, it will go right back on. Therapy is often recommended along with the shots.

To aid in it you are supposed to be on it until you reach your goal weight, then maintain for 1 year before tapering off the drugs.

So the story of every fad diet ever. Sure it'll work! Don't look at the odds of regaining the weight in 1/2/5 years. Everyone who can't keep it off is just lazy. It's math! Don't think about biology! Fuck that, just the math!

Which is to say - lame.

You seem really defensive. This drug isn't aimed at people who are fat because of "biology" it's aimed at people who have problems with diet/overeating/lifestyle and as an aid in an overall program to help them. If you want a quick fix then yeah, this ain't it. You'll just gain it all when you stop taking the drug. But I know several people who have been off it for over a year and have kept the weight off so far, in large part due to them putting in the work with therapy alongside the drugs. Or that's what they tell me.
