'Cause we gotta do this at least like once a year.

[Poll #1484034]

Whatever's decided goes into practice next Saturday, Nov 14th.

I went with option two for both. I like a little subsistence with my secrets. I mean my "I LOVE THIS COMM" secret had a pretty decent reason why I went anon for it, or so I think.

I mean I like to be able to give feedback, and just saying, "I SHIP/HIT/LOVE/HATE IT" won't cut it.

[identity profile] rabidsamfan.livejournal.com 2009-11-11 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I threw in whatever, but I probably should have said leave 'em. Half the reason I read this comm is to discover new fandoms I don't know about, or what's popular so I can try to get a hold of it for my library. I don't mind people venting == we don't always have someone around we can feel comfortable saying things to, and starting with an anonymous comment is one way to get to where we can speak up in our names.

Re: I ship/hit it

I voted for the banhammer because ideally I think there should be a separate community for them, but as long as they're not taking up space in the main post I really don't care. I'm just tired of having to scroll past the damn things every fucking week.

This is an excellent idea!

[identity profile] hydroskufl.livejournal.com 2009-11-11 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I get so tired of the Hit/Ship ones. So you'd hit Zachary Quinto. So you ship Sam/Dean. YOU ARE NOT SPECIAL AND UNIQUE, THIS SHOULD NOT BE A SECRET, there are hundreds of people just like you.

(Anonymous) 2009-11-12 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Sure but perhaps then you people could also stop with the endless Dean/Castiel, I heart Castiel and I love Mishaland secrets too? Fair is fair.

I voted to keep both without conditions, because it irks me when something that is a secret for obvious reasons has a 'secret because' note. Let's not make it compulsory.

Second choice for both.

[identity profile] minalskare.livejournal.com 2009-11-11 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the "ship it" and "hit it" secrets. I know they're not really secrets but sometimes they're relevant to my interests and they also let me know I'm not alone when it comes to something I ship.

[identity profile] mystic-reader.livejournal.com 2009-11-11 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't help but wish that people couldn't use this place as their own personal soap box. Ranting and raving over how much you hate a fandom/ship/kink (or just plain insulting them) IS NOT A SECRET and I don't understand why you allow them here.

[identity profile] cresselia.livejournal.com 2009-11-11 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I think a big problem with the "I SHIP/HIT IT" secrets is not everyone shares the same fandoms. Barring that, not everyone has the same familiarity with the fandoms.

Say someone completely new to Fandom X sees a secret: "I SHIP A/B". Person, being completely new to Fandom X, sees it, sees the characters, but isn't knowledgable enough about it yet to understand why it's apparently a bad thing (or at least why it has to be a "secret").

I can't say the same for the "I'd hit it" secrets, but at least for the "I ship it" ones, a lot of the significance is lost on me, and probably a lot of people, simply because we don't know the fandom in question. It's not really good enough justification to ban them outright, hence why I voted for the second option in that respect; I don't see a problem with it if there's a bit of explanation, because at least then those of us not in the know might be able to relate it to something we do know, or at the very least, be squicked/intrigued by the implication ("s!b he's a psycho!" "they're siblings!" etc).

I realize that a lot of secrets fall into the "I don't know this fandom so I'm just scrolling past now kthnx" territory for a lot of people, which is all well and good. But typically, these other secrets have a lot more substance than just "I SHIP IT".

Idk. I guess it doesn't really matter in the long run, but it's still worth thinking about, maybe?

Isn't that honestly the same about most secrets? I mean, if there's a fandom that I have no familiarity with, a lot of the secret of any secret is going to be lost on me. This is Fandomsecrets--it's a place where people talk about their fandoms. Does it really matter if it's one you don't know.

Heck, I don't understand this crazy notion that all the secrets should have "substance." Maybe people just feel like saying something.

Meh I'm behind banning the "I'D HIT IT/I SHIP IT" secrets because they're always so bland and just take up space.

And hey, banning them might give these people the kick in the bum they need to make a more interesting secret ;)

[identity profile] homestar.livejournal.com 2009-11-11 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's stupid to secretly ship anything anyways, but if people are super self-conscious about it then whatever. Seems legit to me, if not super pussy-ish. Same with 'hit it' secrets. I've never and would never make one myself, but I'm not shy sooooo. I think those are okay.

As for comm secrets, I think the ones proclaiming unending love for some comm or another are just irritating. It reads as an advertisement for the comm and is just generally repetitive. There's also seemingly no REASON for loving/hating the comm in secret because no one gives a fuck either way.

[identity profile] roxiful.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, I vote to ban all secrets that have some form of "S!B MY FLIST WOULD RAPE ME WITH A FLAMING, SHIT COVERED DILDO!"

If there are explanations attached to the shipping secrets, keep them. For the comms, please ban them. Unless the secrets contain crazy gossip, then who cares?

[identity profile] dreadpiratekat.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
What is the point of fandom secrets if you censor them? Let people say what they want to say and if you don't like it scroll past it.

[identity profile] manonlechat.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
9 times out of 10 they're just boring.

[identity profile] lililedger.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Secrets are secrets. Who are we to say they're not? If someone is posting 'I'd hit it' or 'I hate/love this comm' on fandomSECRETS, clearly, they must have a reason.

(Anonymous) 2009-11-12 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
I am so fucking sick of seeing all the Mishaland secrets, but mainly because I am so sick of seeing the same goddamn disgusting picture.

Even so, I voted "Not secrets unless. . ." for both.

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Dude, "I'd hit/I ship" secrets are secrets. I mean, just because it doesn't seem like a secret doesn't mean anon is comfortable admitting it to anyone.

(Anonymous) 2009-11-12 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I have to agree. I mean, yeah 90% of them are boring, but they're still secrets. Just because you're cool with the entire world knowing who you want to screw doesn't mean everyone is.

[identity profile] tacky-tramp.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
"I ship it" and "I'd hit it" secrets are only entertaining if the ship or allegedly-hittable-person is really, really weird and shameful. Usually they're just boring. Oh, you'd hit this unconventionally handsome but still normal-looking actor? BORED NOW.

[identity profile] stupendous.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
As much as I dislike most of them I say keep them. The purpose of the secrets (as long as people actually submit real secrets) is to be an outlet, and every fandom or person's situation is different--someone could be keeping their shipping of a really common pairing a secret because they just happened to get involved with a circle of people who hate it and feel they can't get their secret out anywhere else, for instance. I think they should be given the opportunity to take advantage of this outlet.

[identity profile] darksilvercat.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 09:07 am (UTC)(link)
I second this. Ships such as Ten/Rose, Wincest or Dean/Castiel and comms such as Mishaland are loved by many, and hated by just as many. If you happen to love them but are surrounded by haters then F!S is a good place to be able to say it without worrying about any backlash from your flist.

[identity profile] taleya.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
Comm ones shit me, but hey, the ship ones? I've seen some insanely cracky ships listed. I love it.

half the time the secret is inherent in the particular fandom - I dunno if it's just me, but the constant having to explain secrets gets a bit tired in and of itself...

[identity profile] darksilvercat.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 09:03 am (UTC)(link)
I vote leave 'em for both. I only check F!S for things that are relevant to my interests and I don't find it hard to scroll past the 'I ship it'/'I'd hit it'/'I love/hate this comm' for fandoms that I don't care about.

[identity profile] whisperwords.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 09:20 am (UTC)(link)
The ship it/hit it secrets really only bother me when people feel the need to say cheesy crap like "I'd ship it like the Titanic" or something. Hurr durr, it's a ship, hahaa whatever. "I SHIP IT LIKE FEDEX!" is my least favorite, if only because I feel like I've seen it a million times by now.

I say keep 'em all as long as people say WHY, otherwise it just seems like people are submitting "I SHIP IT!" just to submit it. "I ship it even though it should squick me because they look like my dad and his brother" is far more interesting than a plain old "I ship it."

Ban them both. Neither are particularly secret-worthy.

[identity profile] puppy-tenchan.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I voted for 'more than just' with the specifics in mind that there has to be a 'secret because' as well. The 'S!because' doesn't have to actually convince me personally, but I want to see that people at least put a thought into the question if this is really a secret, as opposed to just an attempt to find validation.

[identity profile] elen-nibin.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Leave them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
