I guess this is something I have never personally been able to understand. How do you think you're hungry when you aren't?

Honestly not sure, it may be part of my mental illness? My brain is just really good at mistaking other things for hunger. Like if I'm sleepy sometimes my brain thinks I'm hungry, if I'm feeling depressed or anxious. And if I see something that looks good, my brain tells me I want it even if I don't.

Not sure if this is the same thing, but…

My default seems to be “not hungry”. Like, if I’m too busy, I sometimes get headaches from not eating all day before I feel it in my stomach. But actively being reminded of enticing foods can trigger hunger or at least a feeling of desire for food. And sometimes being high will do that too.

A lot of people will have a really hard time differentiating between psychological cues for hunger and physical cues for hunger. A lot of people don't even know there is a difference!

Yeah, when I'm actually hungry, I feel it in my stomach. If I don't feel it there, then it's not real hunger.

Most people in modern society never really get "hungry" at all. We eat breakfast because it's morning and lunch when it's breaktime and dinner when everybody else is ready for dinner.

Cooking shows don't necessarily trigger my hunger if I'm not feeling peckish, but I'm constantly thinking of what I'll be making for dinner or planning to cook for the weekend. I'm not fat, but wooooo, I could be!

My brain sometimes mixes pain and hunger. It sucks because I am on a fat side and I have my share of doctors ignoring my health problems.
