I hate those episodes that put characters from fantasy or scifi worlds in the real world, especially when they question whether the fantasy world exists in the first place like that Buffy episode. But even that DS9 episode I don't love. I get why it is adored, but I'm just not interested.

What Buffy episode? I admit I was never more than a casual fan of that show, but I'm confused by this secret. I don't think I'd consider Buffy as taking place in a fantasy world to begin with. It's urban fantasy, which is just our world but there are also vampires and stuff. Do you mean there was an AU episode where vampires didn't exist?

Yeah, I get it. That plot device has a bit of an "~it was all a dream~" vibe to it. Like, if you're going to tell me the whole show maybe is a fantasy in the mind of one character, then I don't care about the show anymore because none of the stakes are real, even for the characters. Instead, in order to save the show and keep it enjoyable to watch, I'd rather just delete this episode from my mind.

I think writers in particular REALLY like the theme that stories can be more ~real~ or more Important than real life (it's a kind of self-flattery, because that means that what writers do is SO meaningful and important), so doing this kind of plot feels really deep to them, but I think they are just underwhelming and disappointing for the reader/viewer, honestly.

The DS9 one is less bad because there's enough ambiguity to what's happening that it's easy to see Capt. Sisko as the "real" one and the daydream as a Prophet-induced mind manipulation. But I've seen people say they like to imagine that all of DS9 is a story Benny wrote and that would make the show so meaningful and I just disagree -- I don't buy that as the account of DS9 the show and even if it were, I think it would make DS9 less meaningful, actually. I also didn't like it when they brought that framing back for a sequel where Benny is in an asylum and Damar is his therapist (although again, easy to read those bits as mind manipulation (by the Pah Wraiths in this case)).

I've been spending a lot of time lately speculating about the effects of ghoulification on sex drive and sex organs. But the answers don't matter too much... It turns out that my libido and imagination can take any of the possibilities and spin them into satisfying fantasies.

(Almost certainly some loss of sensation, right? But is the soft tissue still there or is it gone like his nose?)

I'm tired of the giant complicated story lines on Critical Role. I just want a fun adventure, not complicated world politics and five million threads to follow.

I guess this show just isn't for me anymore, I just really loved the first two campaigns.

Happy for them to have fun but sad for me not to be into it.
