Yeah, he was, but he was also selling a show to a TV station, and pitched it as "Wagon Train to the Stars", so what OP is talking about was built into the premise. I think the undeniable progressiveness of a lot of it has helped keep it alive into the present day, but it doesn't mean it's not also a product of its time.

We can agree that it was a product of it's time, but it was a BYproduct of it's time. That wasn't the purpose at all.

AYRT Oh yeah, I don't think it was its purpose, but it's also intrinsic to the show.
