Have you actually read anything written by the author? Because what he was was a massive socialist. Yes he was racist to an extent that was fairlu typical for his time, but actually less so in a lot of ways. Him purposefully having black, Russian, and Japanese main characters was fairly radical for the time.

Yeah, he was, but he was also selling a show to a TV station, and pitched it as "Wagon Train to the Stars", so what OP is talking about was built into the premise. I think the undeniable progressiveness of a lot of it has helped keep it alive into the present day, but it doesn't mean it's not also a product of its time.

We can agree that it was a product of it's time, but it was a BYproduct of it's time. That wasn't the purpose at all.

AYRT Oh yeah, I don't think it was its purpose, but it's also intrinsic to the show.

Socialism doesn't make people immune to a "white man's burden" mindset, the USSR was communist and they believed they had a duty to civilize parts of the continent and get rid of practices and cultures they considered barbaric and backwards. It really comes down to if you can find value in cultures that are different from yours.

USSR had one of the best programms for preservation of small languages and traditional ways of life. It also never reached communism. Communism was an ideal. These facts are pretty well known so you sound like an idiot, to put it straight.
