Re: Complaing or venting or whatever
(Anonymous) 2026-02-01 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)I honestly just hope she calls in again tomorrow so that I don't have to hear her complaining the entire day about a) no money b) tired c) having to be at work d) the cold etc
It's also frustrating that she's gone all the time and people have to carry her weight since she's not there. And she's never apologetic about that. She doesn't care. And even when she is there she's not a good worker. Half the time she's on her phone or quite literally has her eyes closed.
One of my coworkers is going to go to the big boss since our immediate boss isn't doing anything and just wants to sweep it under the rug instead of dealing with it.
Yeah yeah, I know I'm complaining about her complaining. But I'm doing it here on this post instead of saying it all day long at work.
Re: Complaing or venting or whatever
(Anonymous) 2026-02-01 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)She also is constantly toeing the line with our PTO/Sick Time policy, and my workplace has a really forgiving policy.
I think she wants someone to bitch with, but I instead like to talk about the plans I make during my time off work. Focusing on my plans keeps my mind busy while working. I used to ruminate over my negative thoughts, but I got past the wallowing and feeling helpless. I vent and bitch about crappy situations, etc but I know when to stop because it affects my mood.
If someone complains a lot, I kind of run out of things to say, you know? Sometimes changing the subject works, other times I can find ways to remove myself from conversation with her.
Hope you can get a break from your coworker nonny. I get the feeling of "I know I'm a hypocrite for complaining about someone who wears me down from complaining a lot but I need to vent!" Hope you have some hobbies or exercises that help you with managing stress. We all have to work to survive, difficult coworkers can make work harder than it already it.
Re: Complaing or venting or whatever
(Anonymous) 2026-02-01 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)But it's the constant daily complaining that wears me down. Yes, you're tired, most of us are tired. No, you don't want to be here, none of us do. Yes, it's cold outside, we are all aware. Yes, you'd rather be at home in bed, same here.
But do we have to go over these same topics every single day? Like you said, the wallowing and ruminating actually makes things worse if it never stops. I too like to focus on my work itself or else think of other things to distract me to get through the day, rather than continually going on about how tired I am. Some days are harder than others, yes, but some evidently some people have nothing BUT hard days. 🥲
I'm sorry you have a coworker like that too! It's really frustrating to see someone taking advantage and just not caring about how their actions affect others. Of course we all need the bathroom, and sometimes there might be a situation where you spend more time in there than usual, but probably if it's something so severe that it affects you every single day, you need to see a doctor and get some kind of note or explanation.
