(Anonymous) 2026-02-21 12:27 am (UTC)(link)Like, you CANNOT tell me that if you're an adult who retains ANY investment in hp, and you are in online spaces that expect you to respect trans people's right to exist, that you have never encountered the idea that your ATTENTION is valuable to jkr. It's been discussed! It comes off as disingenuous at best to ask for absolution for, or defend, your continued participation in a visible fandom for the series. You can re-read the books without starting yet another discussion on why you think you should be allowed to get excited about harry fuckin potter.
I mean, this IS fandom secrets, I can't fault OP for bringing it here and not their blog or group chat or what have you. And my ire is not for OP specifically, it's for the many people who can't abandon the franchise but also can't handle the cognitive dissonance of doing something they KNOW is harmful to other people, so they need to make it okay to still be invested in hp, and they have to bring it up and shove it, however inadvertently, into the faces of those most hurt by it who would love to move on.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-21 12:58 am (UTC)(link)I understand visceral gut bonding with a book franchise, tons of us have bee through this before (Neil Gaiman, Orson Scott Card, Eddings, MZ Bradley, Anne Rice oh shit there's been a lot of it). But at some point you will grow past the red line, you'll find yourself suddenly seeing the books on your shelf and going "maybe I can put this in a box in my closet instead of displaying them." If you don't actually reach that point, or even know in your heart of hearts that when you defend still reading them you're privately at war with yourself knowing how much you shouldn't...then we're gonna have a problem.
Anyone who still needs to re-re-read them and indulge in the characters and storyline, ngl, I'm gonna side-eye, but if you're not a close friend who knows about my transition, I ain't saying shit to your face. If I don't know you, I don't care. But if I do know you, and see these books on your shelf, this trans person is gonna raise a lot of eyebrows.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-21 01:14 am (UTC)(link)This judgement of others does work. It cured me of my love for the series. I can no longer associate HP with anything but being hated as a person.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-21 05:18 am (UTC)(link)Those friends should be happy to be rid of you.
In the essay that started this all, which I doubt you ever bothered to read, Rowling argued that actual trans women face issues that make them uniquely vulnerable, and that they therefore need our support. She said that she would stand beside any trans women who had faced discrimination based on her gender identity. But she also said that self ID with no questions asked was a bad idea, because predators would take advantage (and she's right: they do. I know that people on this forum don't care about that, because they've decided that it's inevitable that men will attack women, making it pointless to attempt to stop them, but I don't share that view). The reaction to this was to call her a terrible transphobe, and to attack not just her but her children, including threatening to kill them. And now narcissists like you can't understand why she doesn't like you and your entire self-obsessed movement.
You aren't the center of the universe. Your rights shouldn't come at the expense of women's safety, and you shouldn't get to bully and harass people and threaten them with death and rape because you think there's something wrong with your body. You don't get to demand that people sleep with you to avoid the accusation of "bigot." You don't get to leer at women in the changing room, comment lewdly on their bodies, get hard in front of them, and then say "but I'm a woman, you have to let me stay" when they object. You don't get to straight up commit rape and then frame it as something everyone should feel bad for you about. And yeah, these are all examples of actual behavior from your community, a community that is completely unwilling to acknowledge or condemn any of that bad behavior. Which, after all these years, makes it look like you're fine with it, and that everyone who says you're a bunch of predators might actually be right. In less than a decade, I went from campaigning door to door for trans rights to thinking that most of you have personality disorders, and that's from direct experience. That's from having trans friends who eventually scared the fuck out of me, because yeah, they expressed ideas like, "lesbians who won't sleep with me because I have a penis are vagina fetishists and bigots," or admitted to raping people (shout out to the trans woman who said that sometimes she blacks out, comes to, and realizes she's forced herself on her partner, and wanted us to comfort her over it! Yes, she wanted us to comfort her because she raped someone multiple times!).
So I hope your friends display their horribly offensive books. And I hope that they are then blessed with your absence.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-21 05:52 am (UTC)(link)And that second paragraph is just unabashed transphobic garbage. You don't get to demonize an entire group of marginalized people and make the worst assumptions about their behavior in public and private spaces. You were never an ally from the sounds of it, assuming you're not just straight up lying about these alleged experiences.
And the label of narcissist is hilarious coming from someone who made ayrt's post all about you.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-21 04:51 am (UTC)(link)People engaging in Harry Potter fandom does not prevent trans people from being able to exist, and feeling uncomfortable or mad is not "harm," except in your tiny, narcissistic imagination. Also, JK Rowling is not a fascist. Fascist doesn't mean "person I dislike" or "person who has views I take issue with." It doesn't even mean "person whose views I find abhorrent." It's a specific ideology, not a bogey man.
The reality is that people like you are histrionic bullies. You suck, not because you're either trans or supportive of trans people, but because the company you keep lies, exaggerates, badgers, belittles, tries to ruin lives, and sometimes issues death and rape threats in order to control others. Your alignment with a particular identity doesn't give you a pass for being at best a whinging child and at worst a giant asshole, and the sooner people stop carrying water for the likes of you, the better for us all.
