Nice OP! That sounds awesome, glad you found something that worked!

(Anonymous) 2026-03-11 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed! That is an awesome dress and Maleficent would rock it!

Tell me you know nothing about figure skating without telling me you know nothing about figure skating.

Things You Miss Buying

(Anonymous) 2026-03-11 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)

Trying to make a red thai curry with no recipe

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2026-03-11 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Can anyone see any flaws in my plan?

Sear chicken off, add garlic, onion, ginger. Saute for a bit. Add curry paste. Heat for like 30 seconds. Add coconut milk. Get everything mixed. Add green beans (frozen) and bell pepper (fresh). Let is simmer for like 10 minutes. Add bamboo shoots (canned never used before). Simmer for another few minutes. Serve with rice.

Cat Question

[personal profile] philstar22 2026-03-11 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
My cat had dental surgery today. 2 teeth pulled. I'm keeping an eye on her, only gave her a little dinner to see if she keeps it down. But is there anything else I should keep an eye on or worry about?

So the OP is happy to see someone skating happy. Russia and the Soviet bloc in general have a history of brutal treatment of their figure skaters (and other athletes but skaters are the most high profile). The skaters are always amongst the best in the world but they don’t typically seem happy. They’re technically proficient but often there’s no real heart in their performances because it was brutally trained out of them. And until pretty recently figure skating in general tended to discourage anything other than technical performance with a focus on jumps. So OP is saying that they get joy seeing someone exude joy while skating.

And if OP is American, they probably feel even more joy and possibly pride in such a soulful performance.

Looks amazing! But I’d try to thaw the green beans a little. Either toss them in a pan on medium low for five minutes or throw them in the microwave for like 2-3 minutes on 5 or 4 (out of 10). Or even just let them sit in some hot tap water for a few minutes before adding to the main mixture. They’re just so dense that 10 minutes from frozen doesn’t seem long enough.

This was such an interesting Olympics to watch after the horrorshow of the women's event in Beijing. All the women skating seemed happy and the sportsmanship was on full display. (And the crowds for all the skating events were fantastic.)

Despite all the praise for Alysa Liu that I've heard from Russian coaches and commentators, I'm really dreading the inevitable return of Russian and Belarusian skaters (especially ladies) to international competition.

Food refusal and lethargy are the two I know about but my experience is hardly extensive. Get her back to the vet if she has either because those are signs of an infection and you need her checked over immediately if she has either.

For just two teeth, not really. She should recover really quick from that. My cat had 5 out and recovered quickly (and she is elderly).

Thanks! I will nuke them a bit beforehand. Certainly don't want to bite into a frozen green bean.

TIKKA MASALA LAY'S CHIPS. They haunt me. I want them back.

These kind of gross candies that they don't make anymore. https://www.kroger.com/product/images/xlarge/front/0001130012146

Thanks. I haven't noticed anything yet. In fact, she's wanting to eat, vet said to only give her a little, so that's what we did. But she's begging for more. She does seem sleepy still, but I think that's just the anesthesia.

Thanks. Glad your kitty came out fine. I know I'm overly worrying. I'm absolutely the stereotypical pet parent when it comes to her. She's my girl.

I completely forgot about that great dress. (I think Cyd Charisse in green has a tendency to crowd everything else from my brain.) But now I’ve definitely got to give the movie a rewatch, so thanks for the reminder, OP!

I laughed when I saw the first paragraph and the book title, NGL.

fabric and trim off the bolt just because it's pretty and feels nice.

I'm limited to only buying what I need when I have a project for it, and/or I'm guaranteed it's the right color, weight, and I'm not overbuying a whole yard when I only need a quarter. I can't afford to just throw wrong fabrics into my stash right now. I miss the freedom of just going ooooo shiny 2.5 yards please.

Selling on eBay

[personal profile] iff_and_xor 2026-03-12 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
I’m selling some things on eBay for the first time.

Any tips? Is it worth it to accept “promoting” your listing and giving eBay a bigger cut of the price?

I miss bone in skin on chicken Kyivs. The skin was the best part 😩

I'm sorry, but maybe if you're reading comprehension is this bad don't comment on secrets.

Re: Selling on eBay

(Anonymous) 2026-03-12 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Professional seller here, and no, don't waste your money on promotions. Instead, focus on taking good photos, writing a detailed, ACCURATE description, and making sure that your pricing is in line with whatever that item is currently selling for. According to eBay, 75% of the listings in my primary category are promoted and yet I make sales in that category almost every day without promotions because I focus on making my listings look like I'm a serious seller who will pack their items carefully and ship out promptly instead of someone just listing things out of their closet who may or may not know what they're doing.

To make your photos look nice and professional, use a white background if you can (white posterboard or a white sheet or towel will work just fine!) and try to get the best lighting you can to really make the item pop in the pictures. I use daylight bulbs to get a nice bright light that shows colors accurately. Make sure you get a photo from every angle - eBay gives you 24 photos, so use them!

If it has any flaws, make sure to mention them in the title, the item specifics and the description, and take up-close photos of the flaws so that buyers know exactly what they're getting. There are plenty of buyers who are happy to purchase things with minor flaws as long as they know about them beforehand!

Also, be aware that if you're a brand new seller, your payments will be held for a bit until you've established a record of successful sales. eBay does this because in the past, too many fraudsters would list items, receive a payment for them and then disappear without ever shipping, so they want to be sure that you're on the up and up before they release the money to you.
