I had it done via laparoscopic surgery, and I felt fine after about four days. I still didn't try to lift heavy stuff, but I really also didn't feel like I couldn't....? Wasn't in much pain at all, really wasn't bad.

Try and negotiate a little longer off, or at the very least, see if you can be in a position to have help and/or do something else with no heavy lifting for at least the two weeks. There's no point in hurting yourself for a stupid job (though I know, we all need our stupid jobs).

Best surgery I ever had, no regrets.
