Hysterectomy

I know a few users said they've had one. What was the recovery period like?

I need to have it done but I have a job that includes heavy lifting and is pretty active and I can't really take much time off. Even 2 weeks (the minimum recovery I've seen) is asking a lot. Right now I'm thinking my best bet is to do it when I'm between jobs (I'm ignoring the whole insurance issue rn) but that wouldn't be for possibly 2-3 more years.

I just decided I'm stressed about this all and I'm going to stop thinking about it for tonight and just go to bed. But I will check in tomorrow and appreciate any who reply!

It took several months for me, but I had a very high pain level down there due to endometriosis and fibroids and other issues. It hurt to pee for me. I was able to be up and moving after like a week. I just was in quite a bit of pain.

Maybe not in between jobs, but if you have a job that will let you take extended FMLA, so you still have insurance even if you're not being paid.

I have not, but my sister did. She’s also very active. She had surgical complications and had to go back into hospital but was back at work after three weeks.

2 weeks is absolutely not enough for a job involving lifting. 2 weeks would be absolute minimum for a desk job, presuming everything goes perfectly. I had keyhole surgery, everything went well apart from a bad reaction to the anesthetic and after 2 weeks I could move around okay but I couldn't pick up my (fairly small) cat easily, and getting from lying to sitting was still a struggle. And I was still exhausted.

I had it done via laparoscopic surgery, and I felt fine after about four days. I still didn't try to lift heavy stuff, but I really also didn't feel like I couldn't....? Wasn't in much pain at all, really wasn't bad.

Try and negotiate a little longer off, or at the very least, see if you can be in a position to have help and/or do something else with no heavy lifting for at least the two weeks. There's no point in hurting yourself for a stupid job (though I know, we all need our stupid jobs).

Best surgery I ever had, no regrets.

I think talking to your doctor about it throughly is your best bet, they can maybe even offer dedicated time you'll need to recover. But knowing exactly how long you'll need to be off and what they can do to help you take that time off, especially when it comes to a high impact job like your own can really pave the way to knowing how to present it to your boss for the best results. Of course this is all based on where I live, so I'm not sure the experience is the same for you, but any and all information you can gain is the best place to start.

I had one and I was only in the hospital for one weekend but my doctor did say not to do any heavy lifting for three weeks.
