Eiko Ishioka! She did the costuming for Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Fall, The Cell, Immortals, and Mirror, Mirror. Below has photos of some of her work.

John Mollo from the Star Wars OT and Trisha Biggar from the PT.

Ngila Dickson and Richard Taylor who did Lord of the Rings.

Ruth Carter with Black Panther. Not my top favorite MCU movie, but my favorite in terms of costumes.

Yeah, the costume and set design for Black Panther was just superb.

Colleen Atwood

Mostly familiar with her work with Tim Burton. Her work for Edward Scissorhands and Sleepy Hollow is iconic.

Also love her work on Chicago.

She's great at mixing period and fantasy styles.

Vent Thread

[personal profile] philstar22 2026-03-27 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Feel free to vent here too, I just need to vent.

I had two final hearings this week, one yesterday and one today, for two clients who were abused by their spouse. Both happened to be men who had been married to women. And both had the absolute bad luck to be assigned to one of the new Trump-appointed judges from the military who seems to believe that men can't be abused by women. I'm just so pissed off right now. We laid it all on the table. It was all there. The abuse and the affects on them. And the judge just didn't believe it could be true.

I genuinely wanted to scream at him, but I have to play nice because I'll have him again for another case. We're going to appeal. And at least these clients aren't detained. But just so angry right now.

I've been trying to earn a second degree in a different field, and y'all, the children are not okay.

I'm in classes with 18-22 year olds. Small liberal arts college. They use AI for everything. Almost zero reading comprehension skills. Very limited attention spans. They don't take notes. I'm not sure they know how. I shudder to think what community colleges must look like.

Professors are either clueless or have just given up. I'm in the lower quartile in my classes because I don't use AI or cheat on unproctored online tests. I've even wondered if profs are using AI to generate tests and assignments.

It feels like we are in a race to the bottom in education, and it's hitting higher ed now. It feels like a wasted effort to even attempt critical thought. Employers don't really want critical thought, either, do they? They want people who can plug everything into AI, I guess.

Ugh. That sucks. I honestly don't know anymore. Things like this make me worry for the younger generation, but then again the older generation has completely fucked up the world. I guess the younger ones are just going to keep fucking it up, just in different ways.

I think it's more a 40-year trajectory of capital consolidation than "the old people fucked us up!" Not a whole bunch of boomer billionaires running around out there.

NB4 yes, boomers vote, doesn't matter when the billionaires own the government.

I have a junior at my job that I've been training (we wfh). I give him the procedures of what we're going to be working on and tell him to make sure to take notes so if the procedures need updating or clarification the work is basically already done.

He took notes in a txt. Just one txt doc. All the notes. For all the procedures (30+). One txt doc..... I just....I.....sigh.

I just feel so bad for the one client whose self worth has been totally destroyed by his ex. He sounded so defeated after. He's scared to go back to his home country, so he is going to appeal. But I just wanted to hug him. I didn't, just held his hand for minute. But my heart hurts for him.

My mom is in a group chat with a few of her sisters, we live in different states and talk over text and Facebook. My mom told me when driving me home from work that she showed the group chat a recent photo of my sister... and one of my aunts put it through AI and made an edit of her eyes opened, and some "90s punk" edit. Mom is 60 but aware of the ethical issues with AI so she tried to explain that aunt just put her niece's photo in a dataset *without her permission*... but aunt kept excusing it with "the image won't leave my phone, I have sharing turned off". LLMs still train data based off of what people input. I have to use AI at my job and for HTML coding, I know this. Even if it was just private fun, she still edited my sister's photo without her permission. My sister knows and is really upset about this too.

My mom told me she isn't going to post photos of us in the group chat anymore after this. I keep thinking about the vent posted on FS months ago where someone's coworker made some deepfake video of them and other coworkers dancing, it's so creepy to just edit someone's photo and then show it to them without permission.

I'm sorry. That is kind of creepy. I'd be creeped out if my mom did that to me or anyone. Sorry your mom did that. I hope she really did learn and won't do it again.

That's one of the biggest problems with trying to stop AI. Most of the people using it are too dumb to understand what it is, how it works, or why it's bad. It's just a silly toy to them. I mean, the internet was already beyond their intellectual grasp, so AI... impossible.

I had to explain this to my 80 year old aunt too, but she eventually understood that the computer that made the changes kept the image from her phone.

If I see one more new worker's comp claim I'm going to scream.

We had 17 on Wednesday and another 18 on Thursday. I got through all but one from Thursday before my brain called it quits. I now have two more to do within five days.

Luckily it's business days and weekend days don't count...
