AI was never the source of the problem. Like when AI data centers worsened the issues with nitrate pollution, and everyone said the data centers were the bad thing, not the farms that were actually causing the pollution. Or when people complain about AIs being used to make racist judgments, when they were fed data from humans who made racist judgments.

So, guns don't kill people, people kill people?

Well, AI literally can't do anything without human input first (we're not talking about stuff it does after the fact). And AI can be used for good - doing repetitive tasks that would take a long time for humans (for example, scanning a million pages of text to find something), or cleaning up old media from the late 1800s/early 1900s. Unfortunately, greedy assholes with money want to use it to steal jobs and art and spy on the public, and don't care if they fuck over the environment (much less the people) to do so.

Yeah, my dad works in a highly specialized scientific field and AI has been a gamechanger for them in the "scanning a million pages of text to find a single very specific reference" thing. It's upped their productivity levels a lot.

What about people complaining about protected federal lands being sold off for data centers? Or people complaining about the reciprocal agreements politicians are making with their cronies for the data centers? Or the people whose personal data and protected works were stolen to fuel generative AI?

I think the point is that it isn't the AI itself doing it, it's the greedy assholes who make the decision to install the data centers, or fight regulations, etc. AI is just a tool, and models can only do what they were trained on.

Thank you! Like AI is not inherently evil actually, it's just a tool. It can be used for a lot of good things, in addition to the bad stuff. I feel like I'm going crazy when I see how hyper-polarized people online are about like, the technology itself rather than PEOPLE using it in bad ways.

It was literally built on stolen intellectual property.

It sounds like you're confusing Generative AI with AI in general.

(Anonymous) 2026-04-19 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Proponents of generative ai muddy those waters on purpose to shield themselves from criticism to be fair

So what are your thoughts on Mythos.
