Lol there have been a few times in the past when I saw people complain "We have too many secrets about this!" and I then went and made some extra ones about that fandom even when it was something I didn't care about myself.

Do you find that your fake secrets get the same traction as real ones? I know people try making up secrets for a number of reasons, but I’m never sure how successful it is.

Yeah, I took a quick browse through Reddit to pick up some ideas of stuff that actual fans thought so the secrets seemed more authentic.

I guess being motivated by spite is a normal reason to do fandom stuff. I have a hard time remembering that since it’s just not satisfying for me personally, but from what I’ve seen it’s pretty common and I’m in the fringe minority.

Thanks, that’s helpful and more specific. Personal attacks can be a lot of things from “you’re stupid” to actual threats. And I wasn’t sure how you got targeted bullying on FS unless it’s at one of the few named users.

Yeah I would say they seem to be firing at anyone who expresses a positive opinion of anything HP at all, didn't seem like they had anyone in mind. It didn't seem like it was only one HP secret maker or commenter either, at least to me. My comment there wasn't meant to imply there was only one or that you were them, fwiw, I think there are multiple.

On the other hand, they don't seem to be bullying to bully, rather genuinely angry about the subject. Expecting controversy seems like the norm about anything HP everywhere now though

This is equally and disappointingly pathetic as the people who engage in those secrets just to be personally offended by the subject while having no opinion on the actual secret itself.
This comm is about secrets. Things people aren't comfortable admitting irl/in their fandom. Not that you have to like or agree with anything, but trying to gatekeep or keep people in a box- to the point they can't even have a secret about something unpopular without being wrongfully accused as actively supporting the murder of trans people- or likewise, going out of your way attempting to aggravate the few people who still regularly go here just because they don't like something. Both are stupid and excessively extreme responses that really just make this whole place miserable.

In general? I agree.

But when it involves situations where support of something means harming the marginalized, no. People think one little thing won't matter, mostly because it doesn't affect their life, but it actually does matter.

With regards to "just keep scrolling," you realize that goes both ways? People don't have to read your secrets about a series, just like you don't have to read their bitching about your secrets.
