There's nothing at all wrong with liking canon pairings. I mean, I have to be honest, usually what gets me the most interested is the possibilities not in the canon media I'm writing or reading for, but in the end, people ship what they want to ship. As long as they're not obnoxious about it "being canon" therefore more pure, I don't think there's anything wrong with that. And there can be some great fic from canon ships, so I don't think they're necessarily boring at all.

I don't find it boring but very, very limiting in my fannish experience. And chances are the canon goes in a direction you don't care for and what then? Pretty much fucked.

If someone only shipped really boring canon pairings, I'd probably think they were boring. If they only shipped canon pairings with fascinating character dynamics, though, I probably wouldn't. I might wonder why they don't ship any non-canon pairings, but I wouldn't judge them just for that.

(I think most people confuse canon pairing with boring pairings because there are one fuck of a lot of boring canon pairings out there. But there are also really interesting canon pairings, if you look in the right places.)

(Also, TBH, I'd think someone was boring for shipping only boring non-canon pairings, too. And I'd think someone was really boring if they broke up an interesting canon pairing so they could ship one of them in a boring non-canon ship.)

(Also, whether something is boring or interesting is entirely subjective.)

Yeah, I generally find the fics written by those type of people boring, too. But on the other hand they tend to find my fics ridiculous and revolting. Thank goodness fandom is big enough that we all don't have to enjoy the same things.*
