(frozen comment) Re: 151
there's tons of serious real movies, too, that take these negative historical situations and portray them realistic and maturely, not just with the intent of "LOLOL LET'S PISS OFF DEM JAPS"
and by continuing to hate on the MODERN countries that were the "bad guys" in a war sixty years ago, you're hardly being historically mature - dunno if you remember, but hating a specific group of people based on what they are was kind of not a good thing

(frozen comment) Re: 151
Yes. Now, if a courageous Hollywood director bought the rights to make it a live-action movie, that would be another cup of tea.
and WANTING it to offend? why?
Because the truth will offend. It always does.
and by continuing to hate on the MODERN countries that were the "bad guys" in a war sixty years ago, you're hardly being historically mature
That's a misunderstanding. I am indifferent to modern Japan in general. The people I want to feel offended are the Japanese revisionist creeps, those who say the Rape of Nanking never happened or was basically a harmless exercise. There's a whole lot of them there. I think it's legitimate to call them bad guys, too.
dunno if you remember, but hating a specific group of people based on what they are was kind of not a good thing
Tell this to all these rabid Russia-haters here who jumped onto my comment like devils outta hell:)
(frozen comment) Re: 151
(Anonymous) 2010-03-18 02:04 am (UTC)(link)Ever think they're doing it because you're being an enormous hypocrite?
The people I want to feel offended are the Russian revisionist creeps, those who say the occupation of Poland by the Soviets never happened or was basically a harmless exercise. There's a whole lot of them there. I think it's legitimate to call them bad guys, too.
It goes both ways.
(frozen comment) Re: 151
I would consider that if I didn't see the same people go into the same racist fits entirely without provocation. Mention Russia to them, and they turn rabid. It makes me wonder about, y'know. The necessity of finishing the 1945 job. It does not do to let your rabidly racist enemies run freely. The Allies made this mistake with Hitler and see what happened.
Also, who says the Russian occupation of Poland never happened? o_O And it certainly wasn't harmless at the beginning. Things got much better after Stalin died though.
(frozen comment) Re: 151
(Anonymous) 2010-03-18 02:48 am (UTC)(link)You downplayed Poland and said that you wouldn't consider what happened to them as "suffering."
(frozen comment) Re: 151
Ever heard talk of the "Slavic race"?
you are literally the only representative of Russia here, and you're doing a terrible job of representing your country.
Erm, how shall I put it. For a Russian, I am really quite un-extremist. What you may view as some kind of radicalism is none at all, for us, and we really don't care for PC, so for me that's all an empty sound. Now imagine what kind of job you guys are doing representing the West. I will link to this whole thing on the Russian forums, you know. I'll show them all this hate. I'll even translate the juicy hate speech for those who cannot understand English.
They don't hate Russia. They just don't like you.
That's utter crap. If someone just does not like a person they attack that person, not all adherents of her religion or her countrymen. Only the true racists, or, as you pu it, the xenophobes do the latter. Are you going to excuse their crazy hatred by... what, actually? A complaint about my personal views (which I haven't even explicated at any length at all)? :)
You downplayed Poland and said that you wouldn't consider what happened to them as "suffering."
That's because it was not suffering from about Stalin's death on. That's how it is, dude.
(frozen comment) Re: 151
(Anonymous) 2010-03-18 03:22 am (UTC)(link)Calling upon your personal Red Army to back you up? Very mature.
You are an extremist, whether you choose to consider yourself so within your own cultural context or not.
Call it "racist" as much as you want. It's just people trolling you back for being ignorant and talking out your ass.
(frozen comment) Re: 151
You are an extremist, whether you choose to consider yourself so within your own cultural context or not.
Why, of course I am an extremist from you POV. Any kind of free-thinkin non-PC person is an extremist from your POV. That's why I would never think of seriously discussing history or politics with you. It'd be like talking to kindergarten children.
Call it "racist" as much as you want. It's just people trolling you back for being ignorant and talking out your ass.
Sure, sure. If these "only-trolling" people got to a Muslim country and tell the men on the street the same things about Muslims they say here about Russians, they would be weeded out of the gene pool at once.
(frozen comment) Re: 151
(Anonymous) 2010-03-18 03:48 am (UTC)(link)Do tell, what have people even said that you would consider "racist?" Pointing out that Russians did bad shit in the war just like everyone else? OHNOES SEND THE RED ARMY AFTER THEM, FOR ZE MOTHERLAND

(Anonymous) 2010-03-18 03:32 am (UTC)(link)Also darling, no, the majority of us here don't hate Russia or the people. Hell, probably most of them don't even hate you. Just your ignorance, your hypocrisy and your obnoxious attitude. It's not only Westerners in this thread, either, and it's really quite telling of your views that that's immediately what you assume when faced with opposition.
Go ahead and link us to your forums. Maybe an educated peer will point out to you in your own language what you're clearly not grasping in ours.
(frozen comment) Re: 151
And Poland. You forget that poor sufferer Poland! :)
Also darling, no, the majority of us here don't hate Russia or the people.
Crap, darling, utter rubbish. I lurked a lot before posting anything and I saw the statements regarding Russia in this comm. They were entirely unprovoked, and they were actually *worse* than most of the stuff in this thread. That's why my attitude is the way it is. Or do you expect to be loved and respected by people you hate and despise? How telling of your views - and delusions - to expect that:)
Maybe an educated peer will point out to you in your own language what you're clearly not grasping in ours.
LOL:)))))))))))) You really have no idea what you are talking about, do you...
(frozen comment) Re: 151
(Anonymous) 2010-03-18 04:32 am (UTC)(link)Not even going to touch on how little I care about how long you've lurked in threads entirely unrelated to this one.

(frozen comment) Re: 151
Your lack of knowledge of current geopolitical reality is laughable, but I can't say it's surprising. (no, not because you're Russian, because you've repeatedly shown yourself to be incapable of applying any view other than a black-and-white, us-versus-them mentality to the way nations interact.)
(frozen comment) Re: 151
(frozen comment) apologies that this is late, lj notifs seem to be down again
(And I'll reiterate: Russian isn't a race. American isn't a race. I do not care what race or nationality you are, uninformed comments are uninformed comments.)
(frozen comment) no subject
Russian isn't a race. American isn't a race.
Russian is an *ethnicity* though. Ethnic hatred is often referred to as racism, though maybe not where you live.

(frozen comment) Re: 151
come on bb, do better
btw it's xenophobia you're looking for, not racism
(frozen comment) Re: 151
If that is correct, then hell, me too. But! I don't think there's any necessity for it to be done under the Hetalia franchise. That's not what Hetalia is. As much as I do like the fanworks that portray the serious aspects of history using Hetalia characters, realistically, it's silly to expect the canon itself to do the same. I don't think the blame for that lies ENTIRELY on any specific revisionism, however: the canon doesn't touch on the atrocities of anyone, not just Japan.
Stopping the influence of revisionist historians is a good thing, I agree, but I hardly think turning a comedy series into a sensational Tarantino-esque gorefest is the way to do it. Would billing it as Hetalia get more viewers? Yes. Would billing it as violent action history get more viewers? Yes. But would it be a mature way of handling the situation? No.
The best way to combat revisionism with regards to history is to maturely educate ourselves and others about it. The truth is known. In time, I hope to hope, Japan will admit to atrocities: and so will everyone else. And, yes, that includes Russia. I don't think the one anon who said all Russians are "living in the past" was right, but neither are you by claiming that what the Allies did is acceptable just because we were victorious.
If you want to go against people who say that the Rape of Nanking never happened, then you have to maturely accept the reality of what all countries have done, including your own. No nation is perfect, they've all done bad things--but understanding that, accepting it, and learning how to progress past it, is how we should all handle it.
(frozen comment) Re: 151
Exactly.
I don't think there's any necessity for it to be done under the Hetalia franchise.
It's not strictly necessary, but it would be fun. The APH characters are very memorable, they are really good nation personifications, and a serious APH movie about WWII could be great. As for canon, what is canon? I am not suggesting that Himaruya would make such a movie, I'm thinking about a Hollywood "reimagining", like they do with books and comics.
I don't think the blame for that lies ENTIRELY on any specific revisionism, however: the canon doesn't touch on the atrocities of anyone, not just Japan.
Exactly. APH portrays Germany and Japan as harmless as, say, Italy and Iceland. The main beneficiaries of this portrayal by far are the ex-Axis revisionists. Also, *one* character in APH *is* portrayed as dangerous & scary. It just happens to be Russia. A nice coincidence, hm?
Now, this approach of Himaruya's is what I call mature. Not in a good way, but mature it is. He's doing work for his country the way he thinks is right. He's not (just) playing games. And the results are thus, here is a story I was told: an American schoolgirl, an APH fan, says she hates her history teacher for making her hate the Axis powers. Himaruya did a great revisionist job on that girl's mind. Not even a legion of well-meaning educators could repair the damage he's done. That's what I call solid work. Evil, but solid.
In time, I hope to hope, Japan will admit to atrocities: and so will everyone else.
Actually, everyone else has already admitted to them, including Russia. However, nobody ever progresses past it. Look how inflammatory this stuff is even now, in 2010.
