1. I found this secret oddly cute (although sad). And I've been there before myself. Not a very nice place.

5. Agreed. :D There's no doubt that you could find Guy/Luke suggestions in the game if you tried (such as, I don't know, Luke proclaiming loudly and proudly, "Guy doesn't like women!"), but I've never actually seen it as a romantic relationship and I don't think it would ever turn into one. They're just friends.

As far as I know the Abyss fandom tends to be pretty lax when it comes to pairings. I don't think you'd be ousted form your circle if you told your friends you don't like it.

12. Waaait, Abyss is a small fandom?

17. It looks like the one in blue is reaching out to touch the other guy's bum.

17. He's such a proper boy that I doubt he'd be doing that, but if he did, it would be made of win because he'd be apologizing for the next hour or so. *dies*

re number 5?

Luke, Guy, middle of the night, no one else around... next morning, and:

"LUKE HAS LEARNED SONIC THRUST."

as the maker of 5...

>: I'VE WRITTEN PORN FOR TOA, YET I LACK BNF STATUS. I don't really think we even have any noteworthy BNF's yet, but whatevz.

18. I do have to disagree with some of this. If someone wants to continue doing something, support is a really great way to feel like you should continue doing it. And I don't really know about learning how to roleplay, but drawing does take a looong time to learn and get good at. It takes years of practice. Stopping after only two or three years would be nothing but a waste.

Though, I do agree that coddling doesn't help during the process =\ Critiquing is a much better method, even though it discourages people sometimes. But it actually helps, rather than just saying something is great when it isn't.

17. ....what is Sol doing in a Holy Knights uniform at this late date? I'm so behind on keeping up with developments in GG o_o mostly because I can't play fighting games worth crap

17. I don't know but BOY DOES HE LOOK HOT IN IT. ♥

You also win for GG-love. :3

18. >_> Sometimes I feel like I'm a bad artist and the only people who care are my friends. And they don't really care. >_> Please tell me I don't know you so I can go on another day not thinking something like this.

1, I understand exactly how you feel. It's a hard process, but it's worth it in the end.

18. People like you have made it almost impossible for me to express myself without feeling terribly self-conscious. No, my icons aren't the prettiest, but they express what I feel and what I care about. The same is true for my art.

Criticism is one thing. Telling someone to stop altogether is something totally different, and it's pretty self-centered. Just because YOU don't like how they do something doesn't mean there's other people that do. It also doesn't mean that they don't enjoy it, and you have no right to tell them to stop.

And anyway, maybe they just need a nudge (or shove) in the right direction?

5. Who?
8. I have similar problems- I don't tell certain friends of mine, not even just the religious ones.
10. Wow, really??
12. :( *pity* Come over to the lj group heard_of_it (that goes for anyone with a small fandom) and try and convert new fans or you can just talk about it if you want.

(Anonymous) 2007-05-01 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
10. For serious, it's like all the nice normal smart non-creepy people have been somehow cut out of the fandom, and all that remains are Stepford fans with cauliflower heads.

Wow, how about you stop assuming things about people you don't even know? That person HARDLY thinks of themself in high regard, nor do they think the ToA fandom revolves around them. They write because THEY ENJOY IT and merely share it with people. They certainly cannot help it that they are one of the FEW that contributes their writing.
If you don't like it, don't read it. Just as simple as that. But many out there DO enjoy it.

May I add onto that?

(Anonymous) 2007-05-01 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
'Cause I really love giving my own two cents.

If you can't possibly ignore her: if you don't like the way she portrays Luke, you could critique her stuff so next time she writes him he won't be so OOC. :| People don't get any better if all you do is point fingers and whine about how bad they are from a distance. I don't know the person who wrote the fics 12 is talking about and I'm not in the fandom but I really hate secrets like this. If it annoys you so much why don't you just fucking change it? Be constructive. It goes a hell of a lot father than bitching about somebody. If you hate that nobody portrays the character in the right way, why don't you write the fics yourself?

Also I know some "BNFs" and none of them act the way some wankers say they do. Their fics or fanart might be popular but that doesn't make them automatically arrogant. Get to know the person before you make judgements like that please. You just sound ingorant.

(I assume the person in question is female? I'm really sorry if he's not...)

2. HOT DAMN IT'S ERIKA REDMARK. Man, if THAT wasn't a big flashback to my childhood! (I still have my registered copy of Exile III somewhere.)

18. I don't know. I mean, I suppose I can understand the frustration, but the only thing that telling someone that they suck at iconmaking/drawing/writing/sex/etc really does is make your own e-penis grow a bit. The way I see it, it's all fine and well to think an icon/piece of art/etc is poor, but if you're not prepared to offer constructive criticism, then shut up.

(Of course, that's not covering the sort of people who don't listen to constructive criticism. But that's outside the scope of this comment.)

13. Yes, yes I am a dumbass (although I'd love to play that game!)

15. I'm sorry to hear that! I hope your friend comes to her senses soon and realizes that real people > BJDs

8. Ah!! This is so me too. I don't mind letting people know I'm into yaoi and all-- my mom knows too!-- but there is one, one friend of mine who I haven't told yet. I don't know if it's better to leave it alone until she finds out, or just come out and tell her. >__>

10. One of the creepiest people I've dealt with in a long, long time was in that fandom. It really makes me glad I'm not part of it.

11. Made me laugh. Thanks for reminding me why I stay away from this fandom these days.

1. I honestly do think that's a little harsh. Have you tried talking to them about it? Because if they're worth that much to you and vice-versa, you wouldn't give up on them so easily. I know I sound like a total bitch for saying that, but meh. XD Most people don't realize that they're 'favoring' some friends over others, and most of the time it's as simple as just sending them an email or an IM, or even just leaving a comment in their journal saying, 'hey, we haven't talked/roleplayed/etc in a bit, I miss you! Let's catch up sometime!'

It's amazing how much of an effect such simple words can have on someone.

As someone that's been defriended for this exact reason and hadn't noticed her error until it was too late, it hurts far more than you'll probably realize, and it's so easy to fix.

Guy can be gay or straight from what I see, most people prefer to see him gay however because of the hilarious situations in the game. [ Given that most of the Tales of the Abyss fandom are girls, it makes sense. Not making an assumption that everyone in it likes yaoi/yuri or whatever, but it's more than likely the case since a lot are very open minded. ]

It's hard to imagine Guy in a sexual relationship with a girl however, but an emotional loving bond? I can easily imagine that, but given fanfiction, anything can happen.

To #13: Don't forget Tokimeki Memorial! (And be sure to import Sentimental Graffiti for your Dreamcast if you have a conversion disc; it's usually pretty cheap on E-Bay.)

To #17: A Holy Order Sol sighting! Very impressive choice of pic.

Word to 18. Personally I encourage people to let me know if I'm sucking at something. xD If I didn't want to improve, I wouldn't be posting my stuff for everyone to see. >__>

(Anonymous) 2009-09-09 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
18. Absolutely. We live in an age when somebody somewhere will think your work is amazing no matter what you do. The problem is that creators then run to their "fans" any time they receive constructive criticism and cry while the fans scream at you that if you don't like it, you don't have to view it.

More people need to tell people when they are terrible. Not in a cruel way that runs them off, but seriously... if they're not good, don't tell them they are. Explain what they can do to be better. But for god's sake we have to stop praising everyone capable of opening a program and hammering on the keyboard.
