Sweetie, you're still functional and coherent right now after everything you've had to deal with, so a winner is you in my book. <3

Augh, finals. The bane of every college student's existance. Good luck!

And that's a large part of the problem. PerfectGaryStu!Aya gets really damn old really damn fast. There are only so many times you can watch him reading Walt Whitman, making amazing omelets and being lusted after by an entire club's worth of horny gay males, in between sweeping Ken Hidaka off his feet, before it starts to get extremely irritating. Doubly so if everything he says is treated as an Amazing Revelation of Profound Truth that leaves his teammates awed or shamed or both.

Canon Aya doesn't bother me at all, but fanon Aya I could quite happily strangle. He's too damn IRRITATING for words.

I really thought that Sei was going to save him. I honestly did! But then he picked him up in his arms and shook him gently and called his name and I lost it because I knew he wasn't coming back.

;-; I'm crying again.

but that filthy undeserving abuser is good enough for Vincent? Double standards are awesome!

Did you fail to understand the last line? If Cid did anything to Vincent that Vincent didn't want, Vincent would shoot his balls off.

Personally, I like to think Shera is tougher than canon shows, and Cid did make a turnaround in how he treated her, but the way he acted in the original game before he got stuck under a sheet of metal is, at the very least, verbal and emotional abuse.

Besides, Vincent is better with Cloud, they can dual-emo.

[identity profile] panksters.livejournal.com 2007-05-07 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
I ship Vincent impregnating Shera and making Cid think it's his so he has to force himself to be a good dad and on the 18th birthday he found out it wadn't HEEES.

I ain't saying she a gold digger
But she ain't messin with no broke niggas.

Post Script - Aya is the team leader ROFL maybe you didn't watch the show or something idk.

Basic rule of thumb: Guy with swords is the leader. There were four baby turtles etc.

don't remember Cid ever being outright abusive.

but I didn't think he tossed her around like a ragdoll.

There's more to abuse than just physical abuse. The way Cid yelled and insulted Shera in the first scenes the two of them are in has plenty of verbal and emotional abuse.

Personally, I'd like to think Cid did a turnaround and was better to her after the end of the game or else their canon marriage in the Compilation is not going to end up going downhill sooner or later.

5. As a huge Cid fan, yeah, he treated her like dirt and did pretty much verbally abuse her, I have no illusions about that, but I found her just as much at fault in the fact that she just took it and never stood up for herself, which, IMHO, made her a pretty damn uninteresting character. I mean, yeah, she saved Cid's life, but she did it in such a way that she was knowingly putting him in a position where he had to either throw her life away or throw his life-long dream away (and since he is a good person at heart, he did choose her life) without any warning at all, and... yeah, the woman has issues. (Why not just tell him right before the liftoff?)

Cid does make a big turnaround at the end of his plot arc, though, so I think it's really unfair of you to think he's this abuse-all wifebeater, wtf. I mean, I like Vincent/Cid, not because I think it has canon evidence, but because I think it makes for an interesting relationship, and I'm not rabid about it or anything, but I don't think Vincent would have to "fight back," because although Cid is a crude and crass individual, the only person we seem him actually abuse in the entire game is Shera, and there's a whole shitload of backstory and reason for that. Not an excuse on his part, but a reason, and he certainly realizes his error in the end, so your implying that he's this asshole with no redeeming qualities is completely inaccurate.

All of that said, yeah, I dislike Cid/Shera as well, not because I sympathize with Shera and not because I hate her, but because they do have that complicated and emotionally-scarred history and because I don't think the dynamic is all that interesting. More than the fact that I hate how Compilation made it canon, I hate how they portray it as yayayayaypairing without any kind of realistic time in-between them being in a dysfunctional relationship and them being... a yayayayaypairing. Makes things concrete that are completely out-of-character and basically turns Cid into a caricature.

[/rant]

12. I LOVE YOU. I mean, I don't know if there's any Compilation basis for this, but my friend and I did a crack one-on-one Rufus/Reeve roleplay a while back and... IT WAS AWESOME.

Erm, I'm pretty sure Omi was the leader? He was the one I recall doing most of the research and planning, so if he wasn't the leader then he should've been.

Re: Not poster of 11, but too lazy to log in

[identity profile] panksters.livejournal.com 2007-05-07 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think they really had a leader. But since Omi was their bitch, Aya was the main character, and they were always like OMG AYA GO GET THA BIG 1 LOL....

(Anonymous) 2007-05-07 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
The only part of GaryStue!Aya which made sense was his being able to cook, and that's because he worked in restaurants before snatching up a katana (can't remember at the moment if he was a waiter or a cook.) Which reminds me.. why does the fandom seem so fixated on NeverHurtAFly!Ran? Is it canon from Gluten or the drama CDs?

A-men to that. If they want a (somewhat) suave, good-looking man to write about, why don't they write about Yohji?

Re: Not poster of 11, but too lazy to log in

(Anonymous) 2007-05-07 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
Point. I just assumed (and my, these hooves make it hard to type) that with all that plus what happens to Omi in Gluten, that he was pretty much the leader.

Then again, I'm trying to apply logic to the same series in which killing by way of piano is a valid murder method.

ME TOO.

It seems fair to assume he did. For one, he named his airship after her. :D

.... for another, far less romantic reason, it's a plot development that Squeenix isn't likely to implement. :x

Yeah. While I don't have problems with the pairing, I'm not blind to the lack of development it has and the likely issues one can read into it.

[identity profile] killiana.livejournal.com 2007-05-07 08:47 am (UTC)(link)
Ahaha. It's neat to find so many people that disagree with 5 and agree with 12. X)

First off, re: 5.: yes, yes, thank you! Though I do disagree on the 'yayayayaypairing' part. There's two long years between the end of FFVII and Advent Children, when we first see Cid again, and it's.... I'm not certain which word I'm looking for (I'm TIRED), so I'll say unfair. It's unfair to assume that the development didn't occur, and that they didn't have any rough spots. Unfortunately, Squeenix is never likely to elaborate upon that--unless they already have in some never-to-be-officially translated short story (like Maiden Who Traveled The Planet, god!). In which case, uh, ignore me. :x

Second: Out of curiosity, did you play Rufus, or Reeve?

[identity profile] killiana.livejournal.com 2007-05-07 08:50 am (UTC)(link)
That's my main beef with the post-VII Compilation bits (pre-VII is a whole 'nother can of worms). They don't explain anything, except in books that, face it, aren't like to every be officially translated. >:(

[identity profile] valorously.livejournal.com 2007-05-07 08:53 am (UTC)(link)
2. I would gush all meeee tooo, but in all honesty, if they're too tight they bother me. And I feel all awesome and dramatic doing the glasses adjust la la la

8. After a day in retail hell and wanting to destroy humanity this makes me smile. It's just so sweet. ♥

12. If there was more snark and less overt fluff in the pairing, I think I'd be more of a fan. And if I could tear myself away from Tseng.

I keep hearing that one of the huge faults is that Nomura took over managing the storyline when the original game was written by someone else (whose name eludes me).

[personal profile] hughes 2007-05-07 09:13 am (UTC)(link)
First off: Yaaaay, support for my tl;dr rant. 8D Yeah, I see your point, but I dunno, with all the messed-upness going on in their relationship in FFVII, I guess I feel it'd take more than two years for them to develop a healthy, intimate relationship, let alone be married. D: Then again, I don't find the dynamic that interesting, so I'm kinda biased. >_>;

Second: I played Rufus! XD It was like... this crack (before AC came out) where it was post-FFVII and they had been forced to work at a coffee shop at the Golden Saucer after Shin-Ra went kaput? And then they got into this fight for no reason and ended up having angry sex behind the pasty stand---I SOUND TOTALLY INSANE, DON'T I. D: I swear, they were surprisingly in character. XD; And it's funny that someone in a comment below mentioned that the pairing was only good when it was based on snark rather than fluff, because DAMN was our RP like. SNARKSNARKSNARK. <3
