I really don't think they're going to be romantic. First off, his reaction when Amy is kissing him is kind of like a brother being kissed by his sister. Second, I never really got that she was 'in love' with him, just fixataed with him being her childhood magical hero, and wanting to shag him was basically her way of getting that out. :P

I am with you on the 11/Amelia pairing though. Such a missed opportunity for something different apart from the usual 'young, sexy female' companion type. But I can see why they didn't go with it. You could imagine the endless complaints from viewers distraught at seeing a little girl in danger every week.

It took me like 3 seasons to like 10, and I went from hatred to adoration for 11 in only a few episodes. I seriously was convinced I'd hate him to death but I was proven wrong yet again :(
It's nice to see him be a bit of a dick this time around. He acts so much... older, too.

Ha, I was convinced I'd hate 11. But he had me from "Basically...RUN!" And yeah, I like that he's a bit of a prick sometimes, more like the Doctor of ye old days. 10 did verge on the Gary Sue side at times (though he's still my Doctor).

yeah, at first I was like "ahah he's so lolrandom there's no way he isn't a gary stu" but then he serious'd up, and it fit really really well. By the end where he's finally all "oh fuck it! I love you rose" I personally think that it was well written enough that the entire scenario was totally unique and justified. Why Rose of all girls I don't know, but then again I am a bit of a Rose fangirl anyway. She was great, up until then all the companions were hot cute helpless girls for the Doctor to save. Rose was so much more of an "every-man" average person sort of person.

11 is great if only for the fact that he told Amy to shut up and follow his orders, but for Rory sake. I'm so glad they have him along too.

I was kind of thinking that, too, actually. A ten- or eleven- or twelve-year-old companion would have been really awesome. But then everyone would be all up in arms about how she's too young or whatever. But I think that's definitely a missed opportunity.

THIS. So much this. <3 I will be heartbroken right there with you, Anon. For all the wonderfully complicated relationships we could have had.

Also, me thinking of him as a father/brother-figure has transferred to Rory as well as Amy. Definitely my favourite Team TARDIS of New Who. Although the dynamic of a young companion would have been lovely, I'm content with what we have. =) We'll see where this season takes us, eh?

I would genuinely love for there to be romance between them, but they've already stated in interviews many times that there isn't going to be one. My pet theory is that the doctor may have feelings like that for her, but he's not going to act on them other than being protective like he always is.

This. So much this. While I understand why they decided to have Amy be older for the show, I can't help but wish that the younger version of Amy had gotten to go on at least one adventure with the Doctor. Eleven would be such an adorkable father figure.

This is going to sound super-geeky, but it's canon in my brain that he did go back for her when she was seven and have one or two adventures; that the shot of her looking up, smiling, while sitting on the suitcase wasn't a dream but a removed scene.

I don't know if I could have handled a whole season of bb!Amy and the Doctor, but I think an adventure of some sort could have been fun. Something cracktacular.

Naw, that's not too super-geeky (and even if it is, geeky is awesome). And in any case, I rather like that idea! *adopts as part of my own head canon* I always just assumed that it was some dream she'd had, since they never made any mention of it later on.

Yeah, even more then just couple episodes younger Amy and the Doctor would have gotten pretty tedious, not to mention that with a young companion it would have been a little hard to move the plot forward in a timely fashion. But just a short bit of cracktastic bb!Amy and the Doctor running around the universe? That would have been epic.

Plus, it might have meant a short appearance of bb!Rory, which I think would have been really fun. I get the feeling he was one of those really cute and gangly sort of kids that you just want to hug and give juice boxes and cookies to, or something.

IMO it's more like he's that older cousin / family friend / friend of your older brother who's so awesome and dotes on you so much that you always kind of have a crush on him growing up, and then you get to that age yourself and give up the hero worship and he's a cool guy, but you're no longer half in love with him.

I'm starting to think bbAmy was my favourite version of Amy as well, but IMO, I still find Eleven very paternal towards her... either because Eleven is much more paternal than Ten in general or because a part of him still sees Amy as an 8-year-old. He tells her to "shush!" And to listen to him and get back in the TARDIS! :D

Also I would be very surprised if it ended up being romantic between them, I am getting the sense Rory/Amy is here to stay.

Well, I'm not sure if this was aimed at me or not, but I made an anon comment above sharing my thoughts on the season so far. Like I said I don't expect there to be any romance between the Doctor and Amy, but I don't see what's so bad about liking the idea of romance. I don't go around telling people that "Their love is so true ZOMG it's CANONZ GAIZ!" I just like thinking of the possibility. The first season I saw and really enjoyed was the 4th one with Ten and Donna. I loved their friendship and thought they were hilarious. It was nice not to have lots of heavy romantic baggage between them.

As for being a true fan or not, I may be new to the series but one of the great things about it that I noticed is that it is constantly evolving and changing. The writers have a lot of freedom to change things about the story and that to me is half the fun of the show. I don't think romance ruins the series and I also think that it is perfectly fine without it.

I think it would have been a good idea on the part of the writers for all of those reasons, actually. The fact that it would be a bad idea is what appeals to me. Characters don't always make the best, most responsible decisions. Not even time lords. Especially time lords. I saw a lot of possibilities. Not a lot of cute, skipping through the forest scenes.
