Women not being taken seriously in sports is a SRSBSNS subject for me and I thought it was about that. Ah Fandom.

Oh god I thought I was going crazy I was like "wait isn't that the awesome sith from the hot trailer?" but the bonus secret made me think I had to be wrong. xD

AWWWWWWWW, STEPHZUKA :3 (I LIKE "STEPHZUKA" BETTER THAN "STEPHUKA", OK???)

[identity profile] demiincarnate.livejournal.com 2010-06-26 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh, no, the gender of the main character can make a huge difference in any work, good or bad. Limiting ourselves to literature: Would Othello or A Farewell to Arms be anything like the original story if the main characters were female? Would Medea or Hedda Gabler make any sense with male main characters?
Besides, even major details that don't affect the plot matter in a story. Setting, for instance, need not be a plot device, but it is a major contributor to a story's success. For instance, I was writing a story set in a small town, and I wasn't getting anywhere with it; it seemed very bland. I decided to set it in a walled city instead. Even though the change was superficial, it caused a major difference in the atmosphere of the story, which greatly improved it in my opinion.

Recent convert and IA so much. I'm so sad that I fell in love with the one season wonder.

You're loss, OP. I'd go with any of them.

I've just been reading around on this one myself, and yes, there are two different Haiti racefailers in different RPS fandoms. This one is a Pinto fic, and the J2 fail caused the author to admit to her own fail, post an apology and delete the fic. Class act, imo.

[identity profile] cordelia-gray.livejournal.com 2010-06-26 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh! I like that :)

[identity profile] avenginglyyours.livejournal.com 2010-06-26 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm, Vegeta.
I'll be in my bunk.

(Anonymous) 2010-06-26 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
So we should just ignore all flaws in everything to spare the creator's feelings? It's terrible only seeing nice comments on art/fic that is honestly not that great. The real way to go about it is to compliment what they're doing right, and try to help them fix what they're doing wrong. If the artist can't handle any criticism to their work, then they shouldn't be posting it.

Sorry, I've just got to say that I really like where this thread is going. Very beautiful way of thinking that I can't help but agree with. :)

(Anonymous) 2010-06-26 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I felt the writing of their romance was forced and clumsy. I think the poor quality of their love story is the only flaw in the film.

(Anonymous) 2010-06-26 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
This. I know in Harry Potter, it's mentioned how both Harry and Ron will swear, but the word itself is never said do mostly because of the intended audience. However, the action is still there; it would have been hard for me to believe boys of their age never would.

So, if I were to write a fic with said characters, what's stopping me from actually having them swear instead of writing, "Harry swore loudly..."?

[identity profile] aeonamber.livejournal.com 2010-06-26 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too, sometimes.

[identity profile] angary.livejournal.com 2010-06-26 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
First off, congrats on getting inspired to write fic again! That story is now my personal canon, and I definitely don't think it would hurt to post it (I'm sure there's at least one Toy Story comm set up, and you could always cross-post to [livejournal.com profile] moviefanfiction if you're looking for reviews.)

If you do end up posting it, I'd suggest not divulging that you wrote the story right after seeing the movie. Sorry if that comes off as elitist or whatever, but I have a feeling it will turn most potential readers off if you announce that.

[personal profile] thene 2010-06-26 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, failers who take responsibility for their fail are a rare thing indeed.

I am once again fretting over the fact that I once wrote a fic about two white guys meeting during the Portuguese Colonial War and, not falling in love but definitely becoming emotionally invested in each other. Unfortunately, it's canon. That is how they met in canon and is how they first became emotionally invested in each other. I just wrote a shortfic that elaborated on it. I feel like I should've taken more sideswipes at canon while writing it. I don't know. I neither want to be party to the fail nor to declare that aspect of canon out of bounds ficwise on the grounds of its inherent failziness. Gah :(

(Anonymous) 2010-06-26 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
sorry

meant to say

gb2 4chan.

[identity profile] caelith.livejournal.com 2010-06-26 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay Einstein, in the context of the secret, OP's use of someone else's art to demonstrate his/her point is hypocritical.

Fucking fags being nice all over the place

That's a dick thing to say.

[identity profile] faeryfroggy.livejournal.com 2010-06-26 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
There's probably a laundry list of reasons why people hate it.

Instead of listing them, I'm going to pull out the blu-ray copy that my oh so awesome husband bought me for Christmas and watch it again.
