Eh, I'd agree with you if the secret said "Kirk and Spock WILL make out in the next movie, here is my PROOF", but all they said is that they'd like it to happen and extrapolated that Quinto and Pine wouldn't have a problem kissing another guy because they've done it before in other roles.

YES! I think this is my favourite secret in the history of ever.
It's pretty stupid to think that they'll make K/S canon, so this would be the next best thing, and isn't completely impossible (and would give us all some nice screencaps). Besides, can you imagine the publicity it would get if they did that? (Stupid, but most likely true.)

Although if TOS was made now there would be even more of a chance for some K/S lovin'. ;p

Wanting to see your pet slash ship on the screen is not enlightened. Nor does it make you enlightened, nor would it make a movie or its makers enlightened if it were in the sequel.

Does it strike you as something particularly likely to happen in an American mainstream Summer blockbuster? Maybe if Kirk and Spock were women, maybe, but that's just the double standard in play.

Trek has enough trouble with putting gays in the TV shows without bullshitting or chickening out of it, let alone the movies. It's not Torchwood (hah, Trekwood!) but I dunno, give it time for attitudes to change. Even though the actors don't have a problem with it, there's a large percentage of the population who clearly don't have hobbies and make a point of having a problem with it. Now, that being said, I am optimistic that it will surely happen within the next ten years, but even then Trek's first officially gay on-screen couple is infinitely more likely to be a pair of brand new characters.

This would be the current schoos of thought on this subject:

Gay kiss in ST = yay homosexuality! = more exposure = awesome everybody likes gays

This would be the reality:

Gay kiss in ST = played for laughs = people laughing at gays/thinking it's a punchline = gay fail

Star Trek, as much as I love it, has NEVER done big issues like this correctly, and just because you want to watch hot men make out doesn't mean the ramifications of that won't be very, very angry people yelling in the face of JJ Abrams.

Y'know, I wouldn't mind if Spock/Uhura just stayed canon (it's grown on me quite a bit!) and there was never any subtext between them in the reboot (the K/S fans will create it anyway)... but I'd love to see Kirk kiss a guy, nothing serious, maybe just a male equivalent of TOS's "alien babe of the week". Just because more representation would be awesome, and I've personally always thought that if any Trek character was bi (or more likely tri, if you know what I mean), it would be Kirk.
