It's not so much numbers as attitude. I've been in a fandom where the predominant 'ship had a handful of vocal assholes who tried to take over and therefore earned the 'ship itself the reputation of being dickish.

Personally, I see no basis for S/P romantically, but neither does fannish preference for it bother me. My rule as always is: Just don't be an asshole about what you like.

I hate to break it to you, but plenty of people get away with either not doing their hair or showering for days at a time, if they're not the sort of person to stink up fast.

Oh I see what you meant.

Bad wording on my part! I dont care for coach either, but between the two of them he still outdoes rochelle.

Rochelle has less fun banter overall still. I hear the lines but there arent really exchanges like there are going on between Nick and Ellis. "Sweety is now really the time?" yeah I heard that, but when Ellis tells nick off (swamp fever)it is coach that says that the kid is finally showing him up. She just ends up feeling very docile.

I would love to grow up (and out of thining like that) but what does it mean? forcing an opinion against the obeservations?

I am not saying all female characters are bad. But we are lacking variety and fun. I play as whoever the game puts me as in quickmatch. so I get a lot of time with coach and rochelle, them being the less popular choices or something.

and zoey and rochelle dress in a very similar matter.

This reminds me of one story in Pet Shop of Horrors. From memory: a young mother is hiding from her ex-companion, who is violently abusive. She has a very dark secret: she often dreams that her ex finds them, and goes to attack her with a knife, and she uses their young child as a shield to protect herself. Needless to say, she feels horrible about it. Now, since this is PSoH, she acquires a pet from Count D, who helps her deal with these nightmares, and the reader expects that when the ex-companion shows up for real someday, she'll be able to deal with him and have a happy ending. Except, not quite. The guy does show up, but she can't fight him off. However, the news report at the end of the story says that when her body was found, her young son was also found - safe and alive in her arms, after she had used her own body to shield him from the knife.

See, this was written by someone who understands human nature. Yes, a lot of people are lucky enough that when faced with a terrifying situation, they have the instinctive nerve and courage to risk their lives to save their loved ones. But a lot of people don't - and if it's not a reasoned, deliberate decision, then it's not a moral failing, or a lack of love. It just happens.

As for killing oneself because of such a supposed failure: that's a call that I can understand one making for oneself, out of shame and grief and whatnot. But making that call for someone else? Urgh. Not to mention: what good would it accomplish? There are quite a few people out there who are motivated by self-imposed guilt into doing great things. Because they 'failed' someone in their past, they work harder than they would normally have, and do wonderful things. I find this a much better outcome - and I believe it's exactly what Orihime will do. I think she will always remember the Ichigo Monster, and she will work so that something so bad never happens again around her. Far more useful than killing herself, really.

Might I suggest raising this question on after_the_king? It's a pretty solid Stephen King fan community and although a lot of the fanworks on it are Dark Tower related, you might be able to drum up some interest there and possibly coerce a few people into modding. ;)

I donno, anon. If we go by Travis Touchdown alone, his clothing choices aren't that difficult for a girl to pull off. I dress like that all the time. Women's jeans come in quite a variety of styles. All you want are a pair of regular (maybe boot cut) jeans, a tee shirt and a red jacket. You can even wear his stupid fohawk if you want.

The beauty of being a woman, is that you dress in traditionally masculine clothing if you want. There might be some stigma from the more backwards thinking people but it's never going to be the same kind of stigma some men get for even styling their hair in the morning.

And yeah, you're never going to look exactly like him. He's a fictional character and he's a man. His body is built differently. But that doesn't mean you can't make it look good on you without having to add make up or high heels if you don't like it.

Yes, I have heard of them, but:
a) I have not heard of any that involved institutional abuse by Catholic priests - which isn't to say that there has never been any such thing, only that it's not worthy of comparison with the golddiggers who hounded MJ,
b) The numbers don't match up. You're describing a few lawsuits that went down with massive publicity, versus the upwards of 75% of sexual assaults that are never reported at all.

There really aren't that many at all. I marathoned all of his posts at once a few weeks ago when I first got into it, and they're seriously not that big a deal. As someone mentioned before, his POV posts are less entertaining than the chat logs, but the majority of the posts is definitely quality thoughts on the chapters as he goes.
