16. You're an asshole.

W-O-R-D.

I'm an asshole for wanting immature people out of the game I'm in? Like the secret said, they're people that aren't mature enough to realise their IC and OOC actions affect other people negatively.

Other <15 year olds, I'm only uncertain about.

[identity profile] lightpipe.livejournal.com 2007-05-29 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
You're an asshole for sending people out of your game based on their age. If they cause problems, you can kick them out afterwards. Wouldn't that be more fair?

Way to discriminate, asshole. :')

[identity profile] lightpipe.livejournal.com 2007-05-29 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd tell that to the secret maker.

At any rate, though, I think I'm done here, since s/he's not responding to that.

It sounds like you assumed all people under 15 were immature, which is not true at all. Don't be so hasty to link age with maturity, especially around here where a lot of people are in their teens; it's a wankwagon waiting to happen.

Read it again, that's not what I said. I said that I hated when they told me that "I CAN WRITE AS WELL AS YOU" and that's just it, that's not the problem right now. The problem is their lack of maturity and by "their" I mean "immature <15 year olds," not "all 15 year olds."

It could've been worded better, yes. But the above is what I meant to say. The best writer in the world could want to play in the game I'm in, but if they're going to be immature brats then I don't want to play with them, yes?

Then why would you decline them from your game because of their age? :\

What? Who said anything about declining? I said there were people like that in a game I play in and I wanted them out.

What's your problem?

Uh. You did: "I hate it when people say 'OMG you dont want me in your RP because I'm under 15?"

:\

Maybe they mean that those people assume they're being rejected because of their age, when actually its their immaturity?

Re: 16

[identity profile] lightpipe.livejournal.com 2007-05-29 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm, that's not what the rest of the secret made it sound like to me, though.

I can understand that. I read it that way at first, until I scrolled down and saw the OP saying that they worded it badly. Plus, I've had people pull the "ageism" card on me a lot when I rejected them from RPs I modded.

Plus, I can kinda understand why someone would be wary of RPers under a certain age. Myself, I can be a little skittish around under-age RPers at first because those are generally the ones who will get upset at me for my character's actions, or if I refuse to play something with them. It isn't fair to the sane under-agers and I know it, but once burnt and all that.

OP

Exactly; thank you.

Re: 16

(Anonymous) 2007-05-29 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a difference between "don't want in" and "got the mods to kick me out of." I'm wary of <15 year olds in general, mostly because of people like the ones I have to deal with now, but the secret wasn't pointed against 15-year-olds.

The point is, it's not because they're 15 and not because of their writing ability, it's because of their immaturity. I hate when they claim either of the two when it has nothing to do with that. Does it make sense now?

My 2cents: I think the reactions you're getting are simply because you specified an age group. After all, plenty of us are incredibly immature and way over 15.

However, admittedly we may be more aware of the consequences of our actions

- or not. :/

The problem here is your wording, you don't specifically state the maturity of the individual in question, but it sounds more like you're addressing all 15-year-olds. Which I suppose you are, now that I've read the comments.

Re: 16

[identity profile] luzerna.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Did I sound like I was accusing you of something? D= 'Cause I didn't mean to, sorry.

It's just that you singled out the >15 age group; I can see why people would take it as an ageist comment. (I kinda did but wasn't totally sure.) In the writing and art forums I frequent people play the age card all the time as an excuse for bad writing or bad behavior, or claim that everyone who tells them to shut up already is just jealous of their abilities. If any of them wanted to join an RP or whatever I was starting I'd probably kick them out right away for their attitude no matter how great their technical skills were, 'cause that counts for nothing if you don't have people skills to go with it. So, uh, if you were talking about that then I've absolutely no problem with you or your secret. =D

It's not like you can usually tell ages over the internet anyway, unless the person says they're 16 or whatever. If you type properly and don't act like a moron people generally assume you're 15+; if you don't people assume you're a whiny preteen. Talent/maturity might have a correlation with age but they're not proportional.
