I don't like the manga art either.

And I prefer how the anime handled the story.

I thought I was the only one. Why do you like the anime story better? I have trouble putting it into words.

Personally I liked the anime story better because a lot of the villians seemed more fleshed-out, personality-wise. In the manga, most of them were pretty one-dimensional; they showed up and were killed off within a page or two. :/

I agree with that completely. I watched the anime first and then read the manga, and I was quite disappointed when I noticed that all my favourite villains barely lasted for two pages. Those four sisters in season two, for example. Or Saphire. Sailor Alumina Siren and Sailor Red Crow.

This is what I felt. The senshi were all... bland? The writing was bland, the art was a disaster, etc. There a few things I liked better (Mamoru), but otherwise... meh. BIG meh.

I think Mamoru was amazing in the first season.... then, not so much.

Well, I watched the anime before reading the manga. I found the style more appealing and I just didn't like how Naoko handled most of it. The characters were more fleshed out in the anime. When the senshi died in the first season, I bawled my eyes out. In the manga everything happened so fast I just didn't care.

In the anime, I was impressed with Usagi's strength when everyone around her dies yet she carries on. There's also how she died in the manga version, which I do not like, that connects to the climax of the manga as well. The whole manga just goes too quick. I still feel emotion. But if I had never heard of Sailor Moon, and just read the manga first, I wouldn't be nearly as moved.

Good, that part touched me when I was a kid.

But yeah, I agree, the manga rushed things.

Personally, I feel that despite the manga going by quickly, the characters' pesronalities came through more in the manga. They seem almost like parodies of themselves in the anime, not to mention the personalities of Rei and Minako were completely turned topsy-turvy (Minako to the point of being unlikeable). We still get more background info on them in the manga, and the senshi actually defeat monsters on their own without having to rely on Sailor Moon every single time (which was a big gripe with me in the anime; okay, why do they have powers then, if they're not going to be able to really do anything without Sailor Moon?)

Overall, I feel like the manga was a more matured storyline than the anime, which was catered more to younger audiences.

And I think that was a really moving scene for all of us in the anime, but the thing is, movie / animated adaptations tend to evoke more emotion in people because there's an atmosphere of sound and music that connects us more to the moment and characters.

I think this as well and the relationship between Usagi and Mamoru seemed more real for me as well, and not as creepy. >.> They were only about three years apart in the manga, he treated her nicer and not like she was dirt, etc. etc.

I agree that Minako in particular was dumbed down in the anime. But I don't know, I find the senshi... bland in the manga.

I honestly never cared about Mamoru in the manga. I liked him in the first season of the anime, but afterwards....

Oh, I agree about that. But there are scenes that are emootional in manga AND anime. The manga... I felt nothing tbh.

Again, this could be because I grew up with the anime and I read the manga later. I was already too attached to the animated version.

Seriously, I like the manga for what it is, but I find the anime SO much better.

THIS! SO MUCH THIS!

The Senshi, the Villains (especially the villains!), relationships - everything was fleshed out and done MUCH better than in the manga!

The villains were fantabulous in the anime.

Also, the animation and the music rocked. The manga didn't give that wonderful finale in the first season. Or didn't make me cry like a baby when Haruka and Michiru died. Or didn't make me want to get a fuku and fight for love and justice when the girls fought with Ai no senshi playing in the background.

Now excuse me while I stare at the pretty in your icon <3

Yess. D: I felt like I was missing something when people said "the manga is WAY better than the Anime, deeper etc etc". ._. At least the anime didn't completely enslave the planet sailor senshis to the satellite princess.

Ugh I hated that so much. I didn't find it deep. It had less comedy, but that didn't make it deep.

Then again, I was actually ok with the anime changing the Sailor Stars, so I'm an heretic by default. >____>

Me too. I'm okay with the manga art, but I just prefer how the anime handled the storyline and the characters. The characters were more fleshed-out and relateable in the anime, but in the manga the villains and even most of the senshi were just so... bland. Not to mention that the storyline moves at a breakneck speed. I know a lot of people knock the anime for how much filler it has, and it may have been a bit excessive. BUT it gave the anime the chance to expand on the characters' personalities and show more than what the manga could do in its limited space, and I liked that.

I couldn't agree more. I couldn't recognize the characters I loved when I read the manga. And I found the senshi so bland. The pacing didn't help.

IA. For as much sparkly as there is in Sailor Moon, it needed to be animated to do it justice.

Plus the anime/movies had Peruru, and Peruru > all the other guys in the series. Ryo is a very close second though. I hated SuperS as a season, but the movie more than made up for it. :3

I mean, Peruru's sketch looks awesome, but she never actually did a story with him during the manga, so anime still wins out there.

I really really didn't like SuperS (the animation was fantastic, though). However, I did love how they handled the villains.

Very true--SuperS overall is rather meh in comparison to the other seasons (especially after the incredible S season), but the animation was shiny, and the villains were fun. More fun than a good number of the heroes actually, lol!

It's actually funny, back when they used to sell the SuperS posters and wall scrolls everywhere around here, I saw those before I saw the actual season. I had pieced together a story in my head about it was gonna turn out...and ended up being disappointed when I saw the real thing. Wish I could remember in detail what it was that I had speculated...
