HAHAHA omg, this picture didn't load right away so it just popped up on my screen after I went to scroll down. Best surprise ever. I agree with the image whole-heartedly. And your comment.

I'm pretty sure they do have medicine for pedophilia. Might not be in a pill, though.

Honey, age of consent varies across the board. So, unless your characters are like fourteen (and therefore totally accessible to aged-up stories) you're going to have a hard time making the "But they're CHILDREN" card stick.

Even better.

Holy shit. I almost feel the need to screencap this.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-17 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
hate to call troll on the OP, sure they're sincere 'cause I heard a lot bad things the fandom's doing...but a friend wanted to make an anti-hetalia secret based off the recent events. now I can't help but be paranoid. i think it's coincidence, feel so sorry for you OP :(

[identity profile] ldkirby.livejournal.com 2011-03-17 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, exactly this. Disregarding anything having to do with race, The Blind Banker just sucked. That was not an enjoyable piece of television. The plot was weird and the characterization was weird and the other two episodes are so good. Why, show, why.

Tell me more.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-17 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Same. I've often wondered why on earth the fandom makes Hermione out to be some sort of amazing catch of a partner, when...she's not. She's flawed as all hell, just like Ron is. They work mostly because some of their biggest flaws they share and it works for them.

However, the reason, I think, Ron is never good enough for Hermione; why Ron always needs to defending for being her right match? Honestly, many Hermione fans have proven to be quite nuts--as in, more than just a few bad apples spoiling the bunch nuts. Full out, projecting everything they have in them onto Hermione, nuts. They refuse to see her as anything more than a brilliant, perfect, flawless character (naggy? manipulative? stubborn? insecure? know-it-all? NEVER!), so why on earth would she settle for that...normal, clearly flawed, non-shiny or special Weasley boy?

On the flip side, Ron fans (crazy bad apples aside, because everyone's got them) tend to be far less projecting. They read the characters as written, and can appreciate a character even if he's not shiny or special--in fact, that may be a bonus. They see and understand Ron's flaws and they also see and understand Hermione's flaws, so they're capable of understanding the pairing without needing to tear another character down. They're not out there projecting all over one character and making them better than the other one.

I had no idea, how much a completely empty fail!bar would disappoint me :(

OMFG. I love this macro so much. :D

That's what I was thinking. Why is this a secret? There are many many places where the OP could say this.

I think the problem with "No strong women characters" could easily be solved if there were more than three episodes per series. If it were a twelve or even a twenty episode series then there would be plenty of time to create and show terrific women characters. But as is, with only three episodes, the writers are going to focus on Holmes and Watson and very little of anyone else because they have to. Otherwise it wouldn't be "Sherlock" it would be more like "Arthur Conan Doyle's World of Mystery" or some nonsense like that.

In short, I guess I am saying I want more than three episodes per series, dagnabbit. (Mind you, I guess we are lucky that we getting any additional series since "Sherlock" is a co-production between BBC and PBS. And with the Republicans going after PBS funding, I don't know how long we are going to be able to get more episodes.)

Sad but true. I'm a feminist but I do a LOT of things that make people tell me I'm a bad feminist. As long as you believe men and women are equal and fight in even a small way for that equality, you're a feminist in my book.

To the OP: There's no arguing with taste, you're gonna like what you like. I do find it kind of appalling that you don't see the sexism in his music, though. I mean, even setting aside the obvious anti-woman element in his music (http://www.jacksonkatz.com/eminem2.html), a 2008 study (http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/brainstorm/200805/does-listening-eminem-make-people-sexist) showed that listening to Eminem's music increased negative attitudes toward women in listeners.

I'm Ukrainian, family has directly been affected by the famine and we are actively anti-Russian, and do RP Russia/Ukraine abuse type stuff and read such fics.

It just feels.... cleansing somehow to me, strictly personally.

But the people that keep harassing you about it even though you say you are not cool with that stuff are complete assholes.

[identity profile] unifilar.livejournal.com 2011-03-17 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, just want to point out the subconscious typo in your comment- you put 'soul' instead of 'sole', and I find it amusing because of the couple of jokes here about how those insensitive people in the fandom don't have souls. I don't know if you meant to type 'soul,' but I still find that humorous.

"asked me if I wanted to do an America/Japan roleplay 'to calm down'"

what what what

It's not appropriate to think of exploiting such a situation for your own RPing/fic-writing/fanarting purposes but to ask someone to be a part of that, much more someone who's actually been hurt by it?

No. Just no. I hope you at least managed to get your point across... Your friends need to recognize the situation (and the fact that if they were in your shoes, their first thoughts would probably NOT be "I wanna roleplay this~"). :(

[identity profile] oflittlebrain.livejournal.com 2011-03-17 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, your novel is gonna suck, sorry.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-17 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
You didn't say you don't want your characters used for someone's gay erotic titillations, though. Does that mean incredibly porny het is a go, then?

(Anonymous) 2011-03-17 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
First of all, look up Rule 34.
Humans like porn.
They always have.
Maybe YOU don't, but you don't get to tell people who read your book not to imagine them doing things that you don't want them to do. You put it out there, you can't control what they think.
And when you've created a character they identify with, they are going to imagine them having sex. They are going to imagine themselves having sex with them. They are going to imagine them having sex with another person in 'your' universe, because that's the way humans work. People were reading Romeo and Juliet and imagining what happened on their wedding night after Wills had it fade to black. They were imagining the hot hatesex that Petruccio and Katarina had.

And yes, guys see two atractive women and like to imagine them having sex together. And women see two attractive men and like to imagine them having sex together. YOU CAN'T STOP THIS.

Now, if you like, you can publish with the caveat that you do not want fanfiction created for the series. Hopefully they will comply. BUT YOU CAN'T stop them thinking this. And yeah, probably writing it down and sharing it. Because you don't get to tell people what to do with the characters who come alive in their mind. Because they read it with the filter of their own personal experiences, and those characters in their mind are now THEIR PERSONAL INTERPRETATION of 'your' characters. The best solution for you is to not publish your work, so that your beautiful characters can stay pristine and non-sexual just the way you like them.

And yes, your issue is with slash. Protest all you like, but I think you and I both know that you are offended by homosexualty. And for that, I judge you.
