Yeah, so, both player characters are blank slates, and they're supposed to just be genderbent versions of each other. They don't have to be that way (I write them as two completely different people), but your secret still makes me lol for that reason. They're not like Dawn and Lucas, or Brendan and May, or Ethan and Lyra; they're better compared to Red and Leaf.

Although, for the record, while I can see your argument for N not being a dominant bishounen (though he definitely is a bishounen by definition), he DOES show some aggression throughout the game -- little bits of it here and there, but he definitely does show it, such as when he gets inexplicably angry at the end of Chargestone Cave, or the way he gets all up in your face twice, etc. He's very passionate and shows aggression. Does that mean that he doesn't have problems? Nope. And does that mean he's ready for a relationship with someone of EITHER gender? Definitely not!

But it does mean that, most likely as a self-defense mechanism adopted from Pokemon (as animals will often have self-defense mechanisms that almost look like forms of aggression, such as how a dog will bark and the fur on its back will raise, or how a cobra will raise up and make itself as large and menacing looking as possible), N probably does try to make himself seem aggressive and dominant in some situations in order to protect himself. That, and because he's just not sure how to express himself, and so he does so in the most awkward way possible.

But, really, you're taking this far too seriously. It's Pokemon shipping. Please take off your fangirl goggles and calm down.

(And for the record, I just ship N/Protagonist, regardless of said protagonist's gender. But I definitely don't ship it in the conventional way, and I think that either relationship would take YEARS and YEARS before it became anything even remotely resembling "normal."

Oh, and also, I consider White/Touko/Whitlea/Hilda to "wear the pants," so to speak, in ANY relationship she's in, no matter WHO she's paired with. Meanwhile, Black/Touya/Blair/Hilbert is the woobie to me . . . but yeah, there's no way N is the dominant one in the way that I ship White/Touko/Whitlea/Hilda with him. Uh-uh. Not a chance.)

I may have exaggerated some about getting sick over it. It was the first thing that came to mind without being too wordy. The ship bothers me, but not enough to go around starting ship wars or internet fights about it. This is the first time I've laid my opinions on it flat out.

I wasn't talking about the games though. I agree with people who thinks he's a little creepy in game! As for the aggression, I see it the same way you do. Basing off what I know of their manga canon personalities, and my own interpretations of them, I just feel like Black/N would work out better. Over time, as well. I'm not the type to think they should hop into bed right away. That wouldn't make sense and they would probably start fighting or be really awkward.

It's interesting that liking a m/m pairing over a straight one makes people jump right to "you're a crazy yaoi fangirl," though I admit my wording could have been better. I really like the female characters in pokemon, and I support plenty of het ships as well.

It's not the fact that you like a m/m pairing -- like I said, I ship the male protagonist with N, too, and that's HARDLY the only m/m pairing I like. It really was just your wording. Things like:

"this pairing makes me physically sick"
"I don't think White/Touko could connect with him like Black/Touya could"
". . . any interest in giving girls bedroom eyes."

You didn't explain your reasoning at all -- you just wrote a bunch of things that made it sound like because White/Touko/Whitlea/Hilda has a vagina and boobs, that made you sick and you didn't think N would have any interest in her. Which, I mean, it's your prerogative to think that (if you did), but you have to admit that it sounds extremely yaoi fangirlish, especially since there ARE fangirls that feel that way.

But yeah, my mind jumped IMMEDIATELY to the game canon because that's all I care about in terms of Pokemon, so specification would be wise in the future. ;) Also specify which manga you mean, because Pokemon Special is hardly the only Pokemon manga out there, and it's definitely not the only one dealing with Generation V at the moment.

Because seriously, things can get very out of hand very quick in Pokemon fandom if you don't specify what you're talking about, as I'm sure you've noticed.

I wanted to elaborate more. I was worried it would cause the confusion it did, but I didn't want to make some obnoxious wall of text. I didn't even think of there being a crazy fangirl base for this pairing yet, but that's my fault for not lurking enough. XD; The physically sick bit was more... me getting too attached to N I think. I know for fact I'm not the only one who gets upset at the thought of him in an unhappy situation, and while it's not because of gender or anything superficial like that, it's just my opinion that N/White wouldn't work out well and he could end up disappointed/hurt, what have you.

This fandom really is a beast. o/

You've already been called out on this, but you're really not helping the general tone of fandom by saying that the idea of Touko/N makes you physically ill, but Touya/N is just dandy, because there's enough goddamn misogyny in yaoi fandom as it is.

When I first saw this secret, I thought "well, maybe I'll give this one the benefit of the doubt: maybe the manga made Touko some kind of bratty jerk or something that would explain the reaction." So, I went and read the Pokemon special manga and holy Jesus fuck is your reaction to Touko in the manga overblown. Is she a bratty jerk? Nope! Perfectly nice, normal seeming girl.

Sorry, but despite your explanations I still see your reaction as essentially rooted in misogyny. IMO, it's really fucking pathetic that you're so wrapped up in this that you're hating on a character who seems like a nice girl because she might theoretically hurt N if they were shipped together. You did notice that in the manga, Touya is actually hurting N right now because he's the one actually doing the things that piss N off the most?
And you do realize that unless it's canon, shipping is entirely how you want to write it? I could write N hurting Touko just as easily as Touko hurting N.

I really think you need to step back and take a long hard look at your motivations, OP, because your explanation doesn't ring true and I am just so goddamned sick and tired of seeing people hate on female characters because they might interfere with a yaoi pairing.

Pokemon Special is (sadly) the only manga that has both Black/Hillbert/ect and White/Hilda/ect in it, though, so I don't think he/she needed to specify more than "the manga."
