I wouldn't have worded it exactly this way but I agree.

Seriously, fandom is supposed to be my happy place and all of the hypersensitivity (not just being respectful, mind you) and policing and shaming and bashing that goes on sometimes just makes me more stressed than anything.

Fandom is supposed to be where I can get away from all the bullshit in my life and it's like every person who's in fandom trying to drive the social justice bandwagon and somehow make the world a better place for me, a black bisexual woman, is only making it harder to just find a place where I can just be a person and I don't have to be labeled.

At least for me, whenever someone feels like they have to acknowledge every single tiny detail of my self, from my race to my sexual orientation, it doesn't make me feel like they're being considerate; it makes me feel like I'm being picked apart. I can't just be a person enjoying slashfic. I have to be a woman enjoying slashfic, or a bisexual enjoying slash, or a uni student enjoying slash. Seriously, it's fucking fandom, where you're online and none of those things are supposed to matter and you can just be a fucking person enjoying something you like with other people, where you can set aside race, gender, and sexual orientation preconceptions if you want to be and just be. And that's getting harder for me every fucking day.

Yea definitely nothing in there about my being oppressed. Pretty sure I was just pointing out that people want to come in and "save" other people from some perceived oppression when there actually isn't any happening and that's it's fucking annoying when they do it.

It's actually quite the opposite; everyone is always like "OMG DON'T JUST ASSUME THAT PEOPLE ARE STRAIGHT OR GAY! THEY COULD BE BI! YOU CAN'T PROJECT YOUR OWN FEELINGS ONTO CHARACTERS! THEY CAN BE WHATEVER THEY WANNA BE!"

And it's seriously just like, *sigh* really guys? They're just fictional characters. There feelings aren't going to get hurt if someone says they're 100% gay or 100% or 100% horse. Calm down.

No one is being mean to me lol. I guess I worded my comment wrong.

I meant that the SJ police always show up and trash other people for "being mean" to the minorities. Like if a minority who is reading your comment is offended, they have the power to say something. They're obviously on the internet/have access to your thread, so they can fight for themselves. And the people who just get so intense over trying to protect minority groups from the Big Bads on the internet just ruin the squee for me.

Personally, if I have an issue with what you've said, I can address you. I don't need a whole threadful of people jumping all over you for it. And a lot of the time, it was a minor slip-up that someone didn't realize and then apologized for and people still go crazy on them. It's just tiring.
