I really don't get this.

I could understand being mad if they put in scenes that would never ever happen in the books/contradict things in the books but so far I've been fine with all the added scenes because they're things that could have happend in the book and probably did: like the Renly/Loras scene. Or the scene with Cersei and Catelyn talking at Winterfell.

Though I haven't seen people complain about the scene with Danny and that slave girl....double standard.

Of all the sex scenes that have been added into the tv show that weren't in the book, this is the one I'm least likely to complain about. It's got plot! Personal development! Ser Flowers Flowers Flowers-a-lot. (Mostly because it's not there just to keep your attention with NAKED in case you felt like you were going to change the channel, and unlike the added scenes with two women, it's not upsettingly het-oriented. Both girl-girl scenes have been all about ~how to ~please your man. /slightly unrelated RAGE.)

But ASOIAF fans are a very mixed, odd lot.

I think a lot of the complainers are butthurt because they didn't pick up on the extremely-thinly-veiled subtext in the books. Seriously -- I had no idea how many people didn't know about those two until the Internet exploded after that episode. I couldn't not see it, personally, and I'm not usually a slasher -- but I heart me some Renly/Loras. ;D

I loved this scene, not only because of the eye candy, but also because we could see a bit of their relationship, how it works. Since both characters are important for the plot, why shouldn't we know about them?

I admit that I totally missed this subtext in the books. I was definitely not upset about this scene at all though. My reaction was pretty much; "Huh... well, that actually makes a whole lot of sense."

oh shit this is lovely. I just managed to buy the first book last week (because oh my god it's always checked out at work) and this is making me even more impatient for book 2 to get here.

...although either there wasn't much Renly/Loras subtext (specifically, uh, cause daaaaamn Loras) in the first book or I just misplaced my slash goggles that day.

I don't complain about the het/les online or with others but I don't like it because it's rather odd for them to have exposition that way ie Theon and Viserys and Littlefinger. But...I guess they needed it for the new viewers.

Some people are homophobic assholes. In this case, it's definitely their loss because the scene actually had a lot of plot and character background (and foreshadowing) and they probably missed it all while they were scrunching up their faces and going EEEEEEWWWW. Schmucks.

I didn't mind it because it's showing something that is only hinted at in... the third book, I think? Though after that I caught threads it in Clash of Kings. Television and novels don't work the same way, while you can get away with it being hinted at in a book waaay past the point it was happening, it doesn't work so well in a visual medium. It's the same reason Ser Jorah's business with Varys about Dany is shown in this series, even though in the novels we don't find out about it until the third book when Dany is.

A lot of that is happening in this series, I felt a little jolted at first to see scenes happening here that are flashbacks or only told in conversations in the books, but it's essential to make the series work for television that they do it this way.

I do think maybe the sucking sounds could have been left out though... haha, Ser Loras going down and renly's reaction was sign enough XD

I hadn't bothered downloading and watching the series yet; figured I might watch it if it ever came on TV here (although it'd probably would be cut like everything else these days). Now? I'll have to try and find the time for it ASAP. I love Renly and Loras, and feel super-thrilled that they'd get a scene like this!
