To be fair, some scifi works get evolution a lot better than others though. Xmen is not one of those works.

Douche Nukem! I like that!

..... oh hi are you me?

I stopped after the second volume. I could never get interested in it. But now everyone's saying this.... huh I want to read it.

her personal Eva has four legs

I think that was more of a detriment than anything else. I'm so glad that super ugly Eva lasted only like five minutes, I think I puked when I saw the initial designs for that thing

huge boobs

Not really, they're kind of a normal size. I do agree her outfit is like, fanboy fetish material, but she has an average rack (I can't say the same about any fanart of her, though)

Well, in the States people constantly use the term to refer to people from the Iberian peninsula as well as those from Latin America, but personally, I agree with you.

I wish FOX had given Human Target more of a chance, especially since it kept winning its time slot during Season 1, but I guess they couldn't commit to a show that wasn't Glee. That's too bad. I'm going to miss Guerrero so much.

Definitely more Booker T. Washington, imo. Though it seems like their pasts make them completely different. Washington had been discriminated his whole life and Xavier had basically been catered to, so the reason he thought it would work had to be very different from Washington's.

I can't rightly conceive of how much of a masochist someone would have to be for ASoIaF to count as wish fulfilment.

1. Thanks, though I can't take credit for it.

2. In DS9, Nana Visitor, who played Kira, was pregnant but there wasn't really a way to make the character pregnant. So they had Keiko O'Brien be pregnant and be on a shuttle with Kira that got into an accident (or something like that, it's been awhile). And so to save the baby's life, they had to transfer it to Kira's body and Bajoran bodies really bond with babies so they couldn't transfer it back. It led to some really interesting situations with Kira and the O'Briens and in the end they did name the baby after her (Kirayoshi). There was also a lovely moment with her and Odo talking about her having to give the baby away since he wasn't really hers despite being bonded to it (Odo had just met a young changeling who then died, so they were both in the same situation).

Right! Thanks for the explanation, I had forgotten about that part! And I never knew that it was due to her RL pregnancy. Aaaand DS9 is once again full of awesome. <3

Re: tw rape

[identity profile] silver-coins.livejournal.com 2011-06-11 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
lmao, what? so men can never get raped? If the man is just as drunk as the woman and she is the agressive one than HE rapes HER? how about queer couples? If the woman is "NEVER AT FAULT"(lmfao) than one woman can never rape another if they're both drunk? XD

it batshit "feminists" like you that ruins it for everyone else. congrats on that.

[identity profile] i-paint-the-sky.livejournal.com 2011-06-11 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I do love DS9 so very, very much!

[identity profile] i-paint-the-sky.livejournal.com 2011-06-11 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, just to make things more fun, the real baby's father was Alexander Siddig, who played Bashir.

Maybe all the books really are is "Patriarchal, Male Wish-Fulfillment". They are still AWESOME. No1Currrrrr if you're bothered OP.

[identity profile] jedi-pineapple.livejournal.com 2011-06-11 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
YES. Thank you. I hated his damn cameo.

[identity profile] twilightedge.livejournal.com 2011-06-11 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, you might like it. =) It's set in a post-apocalyptic world (not modern though) where ash rains constantly and there are people who are mist born and there are others who can only control one metal. It's a really interesting fantasy take on having a power, and there's some physics involved too haha, so I like that. It's by Brandon Sanderson. He's best known for helping finish the Wheel of Time series after the author passed away a few years ago.

[identity profile] silver-coins.livejournal.com 2011-06-11 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Richey ♥

I'll never give up on him. I don't care what people say. He's alive to me.

(Anonymous) 2011-06-11 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Erf. OP, you yourself are also very confused - it isn't just as simple as 'gay man' or 'transgender' - the word you are looking for is TRANSVESTITE. It's when a man dresses like a woman but it has nothing to do with his sexuality, and also has nothing to do with how much or little of his 'manliness' is shown. Transvestites can be anything from full-on female impersonator with an effort to show absolutely no masculinity to still having some masculine facial apppearance or mannerisms/affectations, etc while wearing women's clothing and dresses, combining the masculine and feminine.

It bothers me when people lump transgender peopel together with transvestites (which happens quite often).

(Anonymous) 2011-06-11 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
You don't have to take my word for it as I'm anon, but a friend of mine worked with him (not in film) and yeah, he got fired because he thought he was above doing any actual work.

(Anonymous) 2011-06-11 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Why aren't you watching this serie, yet? You want to ask, don't you? XD

(Anonymous) 2011-06-11 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm...the pedophilia one, yes, YKINMK is another way to shut down any detractors on that one. I'm also torn because while I can't be the thought police, I also don't want this stuff around for budding predators - there's plenty of proof the pedophiles start with this stuff and move on. I dislike the idea that allowing people to indulge in this kink shows a bit of complicit approval from society, whereas maybe if it were more shamed up front people would be less likely to indulge in it. It's tough...one the one hand no one is REALLY being hurt, on the other hand it's a kink to be discouraged just due to the social implications of repeatedly sexualizing children in any form.

BUT a rape kink is an entirely different ballpark OP. I'm not even a fan or in fandom, and I think rape kinks are fine - so I'm not doing the complicit acceptance of everything with no discretion, like fans tend to do. Rape fantasies are the most COMMON kink among women (even the normal non-fannish ones) in society actually, overwhelmingly so. I can tell you there are plenty of studies that show as much too - you're not weird or alone. It's almost a vanilla kink at this point, the prevalence is as such. I mean seriously, what do you think all those grocery store romance novels are? They're called 'bodice rippers' for a reason - there's usually at least dramatic sexy rape scene at the crux of the book. So don't feel too bad and indulge in that one if you like. Although I'd argue don't make ALL of your fantasies rape fantasies, because then it gets hard to get off to anything else. Nothing is more boring or sad than a one-track sex-life.

ayrt

Then we have two cases of very similar meltdown out there.

(Anonymous) 2011-06-11 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
OP, I know you're saying that you're not likely to stop, but please think about who you're hurting and what you're doing. This is pretty much an addiction, and will be as hard on your family as having an addict among them. It does not affect only you, but can also destroy the lives of all around you. You will probably say 'it's not hurting anyone else', which is not surprisingly something drug addicts say and is really only a deflection in order to keep indulging. Change is hard and recovery takes time, but you can do it and your life and all those around yours will be SO MUCH better for it.

Love, a fellow ED sufferer who has gotten treatment. I haven't purged for over 2 years!

(Anonymous) 2011-06-11 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
(And I don't mean to say EDS are addictions - the treatment is slightly different. But they're both compulsion diseases with very similar mental patterns and pathologies in the victims. It's no coincidence that an intervention for a heroin addict and for a bulimic is almost exactly the same.)
