I'm a rape survivor with a rape kink. Ignorant assholes like the ones at sf_drama don't speak for me, and when they "speak out" against people like me it's just another form of slut-shaming. One half of society is telling me I should feel bad about myself for having sex forced on me. The other half is telling me I should feel bad about myself for seeking out sex, even in fiction, because it's not the kind of fiction they approve of. As a woman, my sexuality must always be dictated by someone who's not me.

Here's the thing. I was raped/molested as a child.

Underage fic turns me on, and not in the 'I'm using this to heal from the past trauma' way, in the 'fuck that was a great orgasm' way.

Experiences and how people react to them are different for everyone, so whilst me saying that I personally don't have an issue with that sort of fic CERTAINLY doesn't mean that I speak for all abuse survivors; neither can other survivours speak for me.

There are a lot of things out there that bring pain to some people and pleasure to others. That's the whole point of humanity. No two people are the same, and everyone's reactions are different.

It is becoming increasingly easier to avoid rape-fic in fandom; authors are using trigger warnings and most archives have the option of excluding fic that contains non-con.

Of course there are things that upset or hurt me in fandom, however I personally (and again, please note that I am only giving MY opinion) belive that if something brings others pleasure; something that is not directly affecting me, and something that I can avoid if I so desire, then I see no reason why said thing and I cannot co-exist. I do, of course, understand the privilage of my position and that not everyone is as lucky as me.

That was a long, rambling comment that made no sense. Sorry, it's 2 in the morning and I haven't slept for a while.

It's ultimately up to you to decide what's morally defensible and what you're comfortable with. There's no easy answer, I don't think.

I personally would advise against relying too much on sf_drama as your moral compass, though. In my experience there are some great, caring people on there who think hard about this kind of thing. There are also some people who, to put it bluntly, get off on shaming and controlling others in any way they can. Shame and sexuality are a dangerous combination.

You're missing the point that most people are defending. It's not about making it "acceptable", it's about 1) freedom of thought and expression, and 2) the expression of sexual preferences in a way that harms no one else.

Please don't listen to those asshats at sf_drama. The vast majority of them have NO IDEA what they're talking about, and there are large, gaping logic problems in the vast majority of their arguments. This might make you feel a little bit better about your kinks, anon:

The majority of non-con and loli/shota fics focus almost exclusively on the sexual aspect of it. It's about the characters getting off, and most of the time, it starts as non/dub con and moves into ~true love~. (Which is grossly inaccurate, but true enough of most fandoms.) This tells me, straight up, that the majority of people writing these fics have no idea about the pathology behind a rapist/molester. Rape and molestation is not about sex; it's about power and control. It's about dominating another person, stripping away their rights as a human being, in order to make yourself (yourself being the hypothetical rapist, in this situation) feel more in control. The vast majority of rapists are insecure, cowardly people with severe mental problems. The sex and getting off is only a small part of it.

The people who write non-con rarely portray this in their fics. The ones that do... well, their fics are more of an emotional impact piece than a pwp; the ones that do aren't meant to be enjoyed. To them and the people that read it, it is all about the sex. These people don't want actual rape fic; they want rape FANTASY fic, where there's a short period of vicarious loss of control through a character and then everything is better in the end. That should tell you something.

(And don't go telling me that those fics "encourage rapists and child molesters/give them ideas/trigger them into acting it out", because that's just as much of a crock. The people that go out and rape and/or molest people (adults or children) are already severely twisted human beings. They will, no matter what, eventually end up acting out their fantasies. The fic doesn't make them do it; these are people who are already fraying in terms of self-control. They're already on the edge, and sooner or later, they will fall. Taking away the fic will not stop this from happening, no matter what people say.)

Every time it's come up, someone has been kind enough to inform them that shota and loli fans more often than not identify with the child character, not the adult... so, uh, who are they hurting with their kink? Some of the members there are vicious. Most of them aren't. And those who keep saying it's like /b/ or 4chan in general clearly haven't seen the comm in a while.

Hmmm...the pedophilia one, yes, YKINMK is another way to shut down any detractors on that one. I'm also torn because while I can't be the thought police, I also don't want this stuff around for budding predators - there's plenty of proof the pedophiles start with this stuff and move on. I dislike the idea that allowing people to indulge in this kink shows a bit of complicit approval from society, whereas maybe if it were more shamed up front people would be less likely to indulge in it. It's tough...one the one hand no one is REALLY being hurt, on the other hand it's a kink to be discouraged just due to the social implications of repeatedly sexualizing children in any form.


BUT a rape kink is an entirely different ballpark OP. I'm not even a fan or in fandom, and I think rape kinks are fine - so I'm not doing the complicit acceptance of everything with no discretion, like fans tend to do. Rape fantasies are the most COMMON kink among women (even the normal non-fannish ones) in society actually, overwhelmingly so. I can tell you there are plenty of studies that show as much too - you're not weird or alone. It's almost a vanilla kink at this point, the prevalence is as such. I mean seriously, what do you think all those grocery store romance novels are? They're called 'bodice rippers' for a reason - there's usually at least dramatic sexy rape scene at the crux of the book. So don't feel too bad and indulge in that one if you like. Although I'd argue don't make ALL of your fantasies rape fantasies, because then it gets hard to get off to anything else. Nothing is more boring or sad than a one-track sex-life.

I will suggest to you that it also works in reverse: If your nose is not in the path of my fist, if in fact I am inside my own house, or a private fist-swinging club, and you are standing yards away screeching at me about how dare I swing my fist because don't I know that in some other set of circumstances (i.e. NOT current reality) your nose would be in the path of my fist, so even though your nose is actually not in any danger from my fist I should still be prohibited from swinging my fist or at least named and shamed for fist-swinging...
