Notes:

Sorry it's late. Half of tinypic being down = I have to go through manually and replace the ones that aren't working. Hopefully it'll be back by tomorrow

I think this is most of the fandom.

There are continuity issues and gender/race issues and plot holes, but ERIK AND CHARLES AND RAVEN AND *flails*

[identity profile] danaphilip.livejournal.com 2011-06-16 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
This.

The movie is out, the cast and the staff worked really hard on and there's nothing much the diehard comic fans can do about it, except not go see it in the movie theaters (which in my opinion is a total waste because the movie was amazing)...

Either go and enjoy the movie or get over the fact that it was released and go enjoy your comic books if you find that more fun then this awesome movie :P

[identity profile] kallanda-lee.livejournal.com 2011-06-16 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
I adored it too, anon.

[identity profile] msolomiy.livejournal.com 2011-06-16 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Yes the movie, as any other film adaptation with a rich source material, had its flaws but I don't see why this should prevent anyone from enjoying it.

I love the X-Men franchise and will be glad to see more of its movies and I thought this one was great...

[identity profile] imouto.livejournal.com 2011-06-16 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, I enjoyed the pants off this movie. All the race/gender wank I've seen about it though, makes me not want to advertise my love too loudly. I mean, I know it had flaws, but it was still fun and full of manpain and James McAvoy.

[identity profile] spam-27.livejournal.com 2011-06-16 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think many people genuinely hate it. If they do they just lack the capacity for fun.

I mean I hate the Draco arc but I was actually excited for Azazel in this movie. Maybe they can make Mystique+Azazel=Kurt less excruciating.

[identity profile] havemy-heart.livejournal.com 2011-06-16 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
The movie is awesome and any X-Men fans who don't see it because of its flaws are missing out, IMHO.

[identity profile] hermione-vader.livejournal.com 2011-06-16 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
It had its issues, but this was the best film in the franchise. And you know what? The Nostalgia Critic agrees with us. :D

This sort of thing confuses me somewhat. I meant, I get there are purists, I know that. But... comics is chock-full of parallel worlds, so you think the fandom would be more accommodating for this sort of thing.

I loooooove this film :)

[identity profile] math-camel.livejournal.com 2011-06-16 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
So much love for this film.

And if you're a comic book fan that can't side step continuity snarls then... I don't know. But you should be used to making it work by now.

[identity profile] kal-ella.livejournal.com 2011-06-16 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
a lot of non-comic fans loved it, and i enjoyed it as well. people take this shit way too seriously lol just chill

[identity profile] wake-the-dragon.livejournal.com 2011-06-16 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
Considering all the retcons that happen in comics, I find this "the movie changed this, it sucks" attitudes of some comic fans to be downright hypocritical.

(Anonymous) 2011-06-16 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Man they need to chillax, because there's also a ton of continuity issues in the comics and I say this as huge fan of them. Enjoy the movie! It's all good

(Anonymous) 2011-06-16 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Could someone link me to where comics fans are wanking? I'm a comics fan myself, and I don't have problems with movies changing things around. I also haven't seen anyone on my flist have a big problem with it, but I have a small flist.

However, I DO think it's somewhat amusing that it took a slashy Inception-like movie to actually inspire more interest. X-Men comics are much gayer, and they've been much gayer for years.

The movie is ok, but if you loved it that's ok too. They handled the relationships and their backgrounds fairly well.

[identity profile] la-petite-singe.livejournal.com 2011-06-16 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
SO DO I. IDGAF THAT RAVEN/CHARLES WEREN'T HONORARY SIBLINGS IN CANON. IT'S AWESOME. FUCK THE POLICE.

(Anonymous) 2011-06-16 08:39 am (UTC)(link)
Tbh? If those "friends" would have that much problem accepting your opinion of a MOVIE, then maybe you should reconsider that "friendship".

(Anonymous) 2011-06-16 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)
You can't have continuity errors in Comic Book movies, but you can have different canon continuity occurences. Optional contiuity is source specific canon after all.

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2011-06-16 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Come again?

Chatting with some guys last night was the first I ever heard anyone not loving it to pieces. I came outta that theatre feeling like all was right with the world for a brief moment.

[identity profile] sweet-children9.livejournal.com 2011-06-16 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
It was a great movie. I think most comic fans should see it as a different universe

MY THOUGHTS

[identity profile] fairhearing.livejournal.com 2011-06-16 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
X-Men First Class needed to be: 25% Magneto tracking down Nazis and killing them with knives; 25% Professor X meeting Magneto (I want earlier, in their teens) and ~developing their friendship~; 25% several years of Magneto and Professor X """bromance""" in the mansion, 10% Mystique being cute, and -- where are we? 85%? Okay, and 10% Cuban missile crisis and angsty divorce. 5% could be devoted to the seriously B-grade other mutants. (Obviously, manly tears and homoeroticism throughout)

Re: the B-squad of mutant teens, I mean seriously what was that bullshit. Havoc? ANGEL? Not even the FUN Angel? Of all the 4346327432423 random mutants they could HAVE brought in? Some of whom were brown? Others of whom were INTERESTING? smh. And some of the cheese was really unbearable. But the Mutant Dads made up for it.

In conclusion:

Magneto could get it any way he wants it

I enjoyed it immensely, which surprised me given X3 (and to a lesser extent, Wolverine Origins, although to be fair, I kind of liked that one - Jackman/Wolverine was my original favorite character from the first movie years ago, though). Then I found out Singer had something to do with this one, and it suddenly made sense.
