19. This is why I support breeding restrictions. Not to maintain the population, not because I support "eugenics" or any of that shit, but because there are truly people out there who are not fit to become parents. Including myself, admittedly.

20. Oh my god, Nazi uniforms are one of the sexiest things on Earth. They were terrible people, but damn did they dress well. Seriously, you could probably get away with wearing one if you just replace the swastika armband/related armaments. XD

I'd totally dress in one if I could afford it.

25. That's funny considering I know many fandom friends who are dating/married. xD

Seriously, what is this misconception that ugly or overweight people will never get married/laid/whatever? Have you ever watched the news where they play some special interest story or something? The people there aren't pretty or skinny or what and half the time they're still married with children or something.

20. eBay. I want one so badly. Everytime one of my friends cosplays someone from RKO I feel the need to molest them.

You're just joking about the "breeding restrictions", right?

(Anonymous) 2007-06-18 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
Then you'd be advocating something that, the way I see it, might seem like a good idea at first blush but ultimately has a LOT of flaws.

Yeah, it would be nice if we could just keep all the bad parents from having kids. But it's not really realistic.

How would you determine who's not fit to breed? Not everyone is as self-aware or as honest as you, so going by people's self-assessments wouldn't work. Going by people's behavior before having kids wouldn't work, either - some people are really irresponsible and get their asses in gear after their kids are born. And some nice, responsible people in every other respect are actually very bad parents.

Some people who would be bad parents in their youth really shape up as they get older. You can't always tell whether or not someone would be a good parent till they are one. Sometimes you can, but not always.

And how would you enforce these restrictions, anyway? I can't really see any feasible way to do that.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for getting kids the fuck away like the moron in 19. But I don't know if "breeding restrictions" is really a viable way to do that.

:] Good thing I was only joking then, huh?

(Anonymous) 2007-06-18 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
:) Yup.

In all seriousness, yeah, the reasons you listed are why I don't actually advocate that kind of stuff. But damn, sometimes I wish. I really wish.

Apologies for being a jerk. I was going to explain myself but I stopped and wondered if you were a troll (pretty much every anonymous person I've made the mistake of talking to was a troll).

How would you determine who's not fit to breed?

You go by the same rules as you do for adoption. If it takes 25.000$, a specific sized house, extensive psyc. evaluation, health evaluation, parenting classes and getting your life turned up side down simply to adopt a child who is already born and waiting (all done to make absolutely sure that the child will be in good hands) - why should the rules be any less strict to ensure the welfare of an unborn one?

Seriously, what is this misconception that ugly or overweight people will never get married/laid/whatever?

Statistically, people seek out mates who are similar to themselves, so each social group, disadvantaged or not, is self-perpetuating to a certain degree. However, there are always people who get left behind, and, as is the case for most things in our culture, it's the failure cases that get the attention.
