F!S Anon Meme (the Fifth)

Secrets, rants, opinions, anything you want to say about your fandom or a fandom or fandom in general, do it here! Anonymously, of course. Get it all off your chest.

(LJ's still lagging here and there, good luck.)

Mpreg needs to fucking die. I read slash because I don't want people popping out babies, plus in all my dozen years of fandom, I've seen exactly 1 story that bothered to explain HOW.

(Anonymous) 2011-07-31 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I saw a fic years ago in which the baby was carried IN THE MAN'S PENIS.

OMG WTF

(Anonymous) 2011-07-31 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
HOW DID HE PEE

(Anonymous) 2011-07-31 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I DON'T EVEN KNOW.

HOW DID HE WALK? THAT WAS MY QUESTION.

Oh man, this made me laugh for like five minutes. Whew. That's some cracky goodness, right there.

I think the only mpreg I ever sort of enjoyed was a Doctor Who one (I remember that it explained how the mpreg worked, I just don't remember the explanation). It was Master/Doctor with the Master forcing the Doctor to carry the baby so they could continue the Time Lord legacy or something and it was creepy as hell and didn't pretend to be anything else. I wish I had bookmarked it...

(Anonymous) 2011-07-31 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, Timelords have two hearts. Why not a spare uterus as well? XD

SA

(Anonymous) 2011-07-31 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, why not?

At least in fandoms like Doctor Who it can be made semi plausible (fuck, it's canon in Star Trek Enterprise). But I hate seeing it happen randomly in fandoms like Glee or CSI with little to no explanation

i read a really good harry potter one that involved an ancient law where where if you kill the last of a line, their family can invoke this law that forces you to bear them a new heir -- even if you're a guy, because they have a ritual to enable that. THAT i liked because it had an interesting explanation (not just "hey they have magic who cares how difficult it'd still be") and it was really serious about all of it and the implications.

(Anonymous) 2011-07-31 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Which one was that? :D

(Anonymous) 2011-08-01 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, awkward question, but if you kill the last of the line, then that implies there's no family LEFT in that line...right?

So who enacts the ritual? o__o;

ugh I'm having flashbacks to a million horrible Supernatural mpreg fics

(Anonymous) 2011-07-31 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
There was one SPN mpreg I liked which involved a demonic abortion with holy water after Dean got raped. It was disgusting and so very appropriate for the situation.

Once in a while I'll find an MPreg that hits me the right way, but for the most part I just can't suspend my disbelief enough to really go there.

Plus, I don't even care for pregnancy much at all, so there ya go.

(Anonymous) 2011-07-31 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
That's weird, because I'd say most of the mpreg fics I've read have had at least an attempt at an explanation - but I'm in a fantasy fandom, so.

Mostly what pisses me off is when people shove mpreg into fics where there is no need for it - like, it's not the point of the fic, and it could just as easily have worked had the kids been adopted or from surrgogates, but no, gotta have the mpreg. I can't help but suspect some people reckon they're only 'real families' if one of the guys squeezed the babies out of his arse, which, um, no.

(Anonymous) 2011-07-31 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, people write fic you don't like. What's that like? Please, tell us all about your pain.

(Anonymous) 2011-07-31 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I've actually had the pleasure of reading some very well done mpreg fics, so statements like this bug me =/ Sure, a lot of mpreg is trash, but no one's forcing you to read it. You don't like it, fine; that's what the scroll bar and back button are for.

(Anonymous) 2011-07-31 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
+1

And at least two-thirds of the mpreg fics I've read have attempted to explain how it was possible in those fictional worlds. Maybe if you're going to bash a genre, you should try reading a wider variety within it first.

I'm writing symbolic mpreg in which a man is carrying an implant that is connected to a child being held hostage. If the man dies, the child dies. Also, the implant is screwing with his health.

It's pure body horror and not kawaii desu.

(Anonymous) 2011-08-01 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I totally agree. I think if men have to carry babies, they should also experience the wonder of having periods and giving birth without drugs.

(Anonymous) 2011-08-02 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
The ONLY fandom in which I will accept mpreg (at least of fandoms in which I participate) is Harry Potter. THAT'S IT. And I will NOT read fics where it doesn't get properly explained, at least with a potion or a spell or eating some kind of weird plant or fucking SOMETHING.

My other main fandom is NHL hockey (i.e., RPS) and there is a disturbing amount of mpreg in that fandom. And almost nothing disturbs me. I just have to wonder... WHY?!!!

(Anonymous) 2011-08-02 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
Why not? I mean, seriously. Playing with what ifs is just fun sometimes. I don't have to read the what if in question or like it, but I am glad that people who are interested have a place to do it in.

Based on a kink meme I've been watching over the past two years, it takes surprisingly few people to start a trend. When you get a couple of like-minded individuals together and there's at least a tiny audience, it can just snowball, if it happens in the right time and place.
