Oh my. Anyone remember the website shinigami.net? It simultaneously turned me into a Gundam Wing fan (before I, uh, actually saw the series), a yaoi fan, a 13x6 fangirl, and, uh, a total weeaboo for a few years. I haven't watched it since I was about sixteen, but it still has a soft squishy place in my heart.

(I kind of want to watch it and see if I actually like Relena now that I'm out of my "1X2 FOREVER! HET IS EW!" stage. I get the feeling I will.)

This. My sentiments exactly. Seeing this secret is making me want to rewatch as well. I didn't ship 1x2 though.

It was pretty much my first fandom and got me into anime and the like completely. Oh, nostalgia.

1x2 was kind of a secondary ship for me? I mean, even when I was fangirling it - just because the sheer bulk of stuff was that pairing, it helped to like it ;) Zechs and Treize were my true OMG OTP (and my first OTP in my entire fandom-related life) - actually, I still have a soft spot for them today.

But oh, nostalgia. Remember when fandom was through Yahoo Groups? XD

I was into the more rare pairings. ( 1x5 - Not necessarily logical pairings). Ah, Zechs and Treize, they were sort of my head canon though everybody shipped Zechs with Noin.

Hmmm, I mostly remember being on geocities -a lot- since they seemed to have most of the fan sites. I pretty much got into it after it started showing on cartoon network over here. (I miss that channel and the quality of the toons back then </3). Dial up modems weren't good for much more than reading fic though...

I didn't! I decided that it was an unrequieted crush on Noin's part and any reciprocation on Zechs' part WASN'T HAPPENING OKAY. Oh, fangirlism.

Yeah, true. The Yahoo Groups were more for sharing WIPs. I remember being so annoyed with the co-writer of some of my earlier fics when she bailed out!

Haha, yeah. When I first got into it, I had a 14.4 modem... go me. I still have a whole folder of fics that I saved. Good thing, too, since some of them have disappeared from the internet...

I didn't write back then, and even now I'm more of a lurker. (English isn't my first language, it would be the horrible icing on the already holy-crap-that's-bad 13 year old writing cake). I get the annoyance with the walking out though...

I can't really remember what modem we had. Everything did take forever though. My internet now isn't awesome, but I'm not sure if I could still live with dial up...

Oh, don't worry. I'm a native English speaker and those fics were still godawful. (On the other hand, I think fics I did two years ago were still godawful, so...)

You probably will. Upon rewatch, I concluded that Relena is bad-the-fuck-ass in her own way. Her telling the Romefeller group she was having none of their you-are-our-puppet shit was a thing of beauty.

Yeah, I remember watching the show when I was like eight or nine years old and I thought Relena was the bomb. When I discovered fandom a couple of years later I was expecting everyone else to think so too, but...most people hated her. I was so bummed (buuuut the Gundam Wing fandom also introduced yaoi to me. So I'll call it a wash)

I...never really hated her but never really liked her when I first watched it. I also had ridiculously low self-esteem at the time, so I kinda went along with the rabid bashing in hopes of making friends in the fandom. Stupid, I know, but I was an idiot college freshman and desperate to talk to people who shared the same interest.

Oh believe me, I didn't take it that way at all. Everyone pulls dumb shit in fandom at some point. Least we can do is go back and laugh at it when we learn better.

That... is pretty cool, from what I vaguely remember. I think I was too hung-up on the spoilt brat from the first handful of episodes, and was apparently too easily influenced to notice. You know. Character development.

Yeah. I was desperate to make friends in the fandom so I hopped on board with the bashing because I didn't think anyone would talk to me if I didn't *facepalm*

The ~2000-2001 fandom is probably why it took me a few more years to get into slash, because I was convinced slash fans were batshit since that was all I saw. *sigh* Oh fandom...

XD;; See, I WAS one of the brats, although thankfully the 13x6 sector of fandom was a little saner. There wasn't a huge amount of Noin or Une bashing, they just... weren't shipped.

Thankfully, I've since actually grown the fuck up (you'd hope so, between age thirteen and age twenty-four!), and now it's actually a huge pet peeve of mine to bash a female rival to a m/m ship. (To use the Gundam Wing equivelents - in my current fandom, I've been accused of hating 'Relena' because I ship 'Heero'/'Duo', when 'Relena' is actually my favourite character after 'Duo'. And, well, I actually ship 'Relena'/'Duo'. Just because I don't ship 'Heero'/'Relena', the fandom's favourite ship, doesn't mean that I hate 'Relena'.)
