Yo Gundam Wing, I'm really happy for you and I'mma let you finish, but UC Gundam is one of the best mecha series of all time. ALL TIME.

Gundam Wing is completely my favorite Gundam series, and one of my favorite shows, but I think a large part of it is that what I'm getting out of it is, uh, not what everybody else was, apparently. I'm not a big fan of mecha. I think they're a fun plot device, but I really couldn't care less about the mecha themselves. I love Gundam Wing because it is a fascinating look at terrorism from the side of the terrorists and because it has some awesome political intrigue.

I am totally doing it wrong.

(I also find Quatre the scariest person in the whole damn series. Seriously. All the other gundam pilots were basically victims of circumstance, but Quatre, Quatre is the fucking billionaire playboy who just decided that, you know what would be fun? Becoming a terrorist and killing a lot of people! I think I shall make my own private army to help me! That dude is terrifying. ...that fandom and I didn't have a lot in common.)

Its' my favourite Gundam too! Apparently it's too old for the new fen, and too new for the old (and the old!fen seems to think it contains bishonen wtf). I also at least like all the characters, and love many of them. 1x2 is my OTP though!

Gundam Wing is also my favorite, BUT the only other Gundam series I've seen even a part of are G Gundam and Gundam 00. I really love the mechs, but my favorite thing about Gundam Wing is the characters, so even if I watch the other series, I don't think they'll top Wing. I'm sure that makes a lot of hardcore Gundam fans rage, but thems the breaks.

You're not alone! I love all the characters, including the women and ESPECIALLY Relena. I don't ship EVERY combination of pairings, but everything I do ship is pretty close to canon (6x9, 1xR, 3x4... what, that last one's not canon? What are you talking about, it totally is! :P)

I like the series and I love the characters. While I find some annoying and some I love more than others, most people that I've met in that fandom hate all the female characters though, honestly... let it go and accept that they exist.

besides, Relena/Dorothy is quite a favorite ship of mine.

Holy cow, that picture brings back memories.

I read fanfic of that show without ever having SEEN the show, was seduced by the pretty anime boys. I ate up fangirl Japanese, the melodramatic angst, and the character flanderization, and was all over the "hate the girls" thing. My first actual fanfic was of this show and it is a piece of utter crap, complete with healing cock and two out of the three boys having been raped in the past... god I was such an idiot, and definitely doing it wrong, LOL.

I remember watching the show finally and being like "uh..." not least because I think 80% of the fanfic I found was all five boys in safehouses or whatever, which from what I recall is not a circumstance that fits into canon. Plus everyone was always gay, it's not like there was ever 3x4 with Duo and Hilde on the side. And I get how people shipped 3x4, but I can't quite understand the 2x1 thing, based on the show alone.

I still am terribly fond of the character and mech designs, though. And the music.

Agree so much. GW was my first fandom, and it's still one of my favorite anime. I used to be kind of "meh" toward everyone besides the five pilots (I was too busy emulating Duo), but as I've gotten older, I've grown to like ALL the characters. ♥ And while I don't do a lot of shipping, I do ship kind of a rare-pair (at least, it was rare back when I was in the fandom) - Wufei/Duo. Back In My Day, though, everyone wrote the two of them hating each other for some reason, so. XD; /TANGENT

Now I'm all nostalgic for the Aishiteru fanfiction archive and all the old geocities/angelfire/tripod sites and and and... *___*;

Oh my. Anyone remember the website shinigami.net? It simultaneously turned me into a Gundam Wing fan (before I, uh, actually saw the series), a yaoi fan, a 13x6 fangirl, and, uh, a total weeaboo for a few years. I haven't watched it since I was about sixteen, but it still has a soft squishy place in my heart.

(I kind of want to watch it and see if I actually like Relena now that I'm out of my "1X2 FOREVER! HET IS EW!" stage. I get the feeling I will.)

I think Wing still has some fans, even straight male ones. It's not as hated as SEED, definitely.

Personally, Wing was my first Gundam series but I had no idea what was going on at the time I watched it, so I should go back and give it another go. I doubt I'll like it, though, since for whatever reason I've never been able to get into any non-UC Gundam series. I'm not one of those fans who goes off on all the AU fans, though. It's just not my thing.

Seriously though, this was one of the greatest fandoms that I've ever heard of. The fanfiction that came out of it, some of it was on the level of award-winning novel material. And I bonded with so many other girls through it...

IMO, the Gundam fans tend to fall into two categories; the guys who are in it for the mecha and the firepower, and the girls who are into it for the plot, the intrigue and the (occasionally super hot) characters.

Gundam Wing is my absolute favourite anime of all time! AND whats-his-name said something as to the effect that it would have as much material as the original Gundam did before they're done with it (and that Frozen Teardrop is just one stepping stone to that). So prepare for more awesome! <3

I like Relena too. I just laugh at her insanity in the first few eps where she's annoying. But I like what they did with her character. She has the hopes of a lot of people pinned on her and I think she handles things as best she can (and does a good job).

Whatever, OP. I enjoy both UC and AU Gundam series. I just love the designs of Gundam and stuff.
The first Gundam I ever saw was Gundam Wing, too. I guess I couldn't hate a show I grew up with.

While I'm not even going to pretend that I ever liked Relena or was a part of the fandom (I was far too young to even know how to read) It was probably still my favorite Gundam series of all time too.
