Eh, everybody has their pet peeves. I personally can't stand robot characters having their optics referred to as "eyes." idk.

I wish this was the worst cliche in fanfic I had to gripe about, though. A lot less tables would get turned over in my wake that way.

I see (in myself) that I have a tendency to use (and reuse) certain phrases. Not that one, actually, but some of these things are almost memes as far as it comes top writing.

I'll admit that I'm guilty of writing that phrase once or twice. But I haven't seen it in enough places to feel like it's being totally overused.

It is an awfully overused phrase, and I can sympathise with something jolting you out of a story normally the word 'shined' for me.

...but this does happen to me quite a bit, OP, normally when I'm anticipating something. I can hold my breath for quite a long time, and I don't feel short of breath in the slightest until about thirty seconds have gone by. Even then I won't need to breathe for a while, haha.

Meh, I love that phrase. Sums up a whole lot of feeling, both emotional and physical, in a few short words. It's common for a reason - it works.

So I was reading the secret and thinking that "Hey, this is a phrase I don't mind because I experience that sensation. Perhaps it annoys those who don't experience it?" Maybe it's like being ticklish or being able to wiggle your ears?

The comments make me think so!

I will automatically hold my breath when tense. I realize it now, but only because I've done it so much. There were definitely times when I realized I was holding my breath only after a few seconds.

It happens more often than you think. Sometimes I won't even realize I've been holding down the left trigger until after I'm too breathless to aim straight.
