To be honest, I've never gotten the hype. She has a really fantastic voice, yeah, but I don't really care about vocal skill when it comes to music. People can be really good singers without being vocally skilled. Maybe it's just because I haven't looked hard enough, but of her music I've heard I've never really found it all that interesting personally.

I never understand secrets like this. If you're sick of her, then ignore her? There are plenty of popular mainstream artists that I don't like and it really doesn't take that much effort to avoid their work.

Yeah, she's popular, meaning she's well-liked and receives a lot of attention. Therefore, begin the inevitable string of secrets/comments saying "I don't like her/she's overrated/she's actually really bad at the thing she's famous for being good at and I'm the only one elite enough to see it/I started hating her before it was mainstream to hate her". All announced as if the person saying it is a special snowflake.

If I don't like an artist, I don't buy their album, I switch stations when they come on the radio and I scroll past news-stories about them online. It's really not that difficult.

I totally get that a lot of radio stations and the like are overplaying her songs. But ever since a friend of mine said "I'm so sick of hearing Rihanna everywhere, it's making me like Chris Brown lol" I can't hate on artists just for being popular enough that they're overexposed. (And, yeah, that Chris Brown comment made my stomach turn.)

it's not like Adele is ugly. her face is VERY pretty. she has a great voice so that's why people can look past her weight. now if she was butt-ugly would she be successful? probably not. it worked for thom yorke but there's double standards

I really like her voice. But I wish she would do more good songs like "Rolling in the Deep", hearing the same song over and over annoys me.
I agree with what you say. She's a pretty woman while not going all mainstream. But... uff. She's okay, but personally I don't think she has the potential to stay so popular.

Funnily enough, I don't think I've ever heard any of her songs. I don't listen to the radio, my TV's broken, I work with small children so the only music I hear all day is 'Wheels on the bus.' Try a full day of baby songs with no adult conversation and you'll be begging for Adele to clear out your ears.

I like her stuff well enough, and I think she's rather good looking, but I completely understand how overexposure can kill something for you. It's why I can't stand The Fray. Their songs are fine, but goddamn if I don't want to jam my fist through something if I hear 'For the First Time' or 'Breakeven.' One of those every five minutes on my favorite station, I swear to god.

Fair enough. She's definitely overplayed. I love her and I'm not sick of her at all because I basically never listen to the radio (except for NPR...I am such a hipster, Lawd), but yeah, fair point.

I could not care less about her weight, but I find her voice unbearable and I don't think she's all that attractive. (It's the bum chin. I can't get past the bum chin.)

However, I don't feel I need to make a secret about this since I have magical things called arms and hands with which I can turn off the radio or change the station if I happen to hear her screeching away.

I do think Rolling in the Deep is overrated but Someone Like You move me literally to tears and Set Fire to the Rain is motherfucking epic, so if she ever comes to my country I'll definitely buy the tickets to her concert.

I wonder if I've ever heard "Rolling In The Deep," it doesn't sound familiar. The Adele songs that the local station overplays are "Set Fire To The Rain" and "Rumor Has It." After hearing both songs a lot, I came to the conclusions:

1) Her voice is really good;
2) I don't actually like her singing despite it being good;
3) Her songs are pretty much about self-important people overdramatizing their own pain while being indifferent to the pain they're causing others.
4) The production on "Rumor Has It" is actually pretty good, in a retro sort of way.

Admittedly two songs is a really small sample to generalize on, but basically, I don't find anything that makes me want to hear more by her. Unlike, say, Norah Jones or Florence + the Machine, two other female artists with excellent voices that the same station introduced me to.

For the longest time I thought "chasing pavements" was "chasing penguins," and I cracked up every time I heard it. Then someone finally told me what the actual lyrics were, and it got even funnier.
