I like you

To each their own, I guess. But I think she's fucking gorgeous. She's real. She isn't stick thin, her nose is a little crooked, her eyes are a bit big, and she has such a goofy smile. Idk, maybe I just have an off sense of beauty..

Anon thinks OP has never waited a day in their life.

This. Oh so much.

I partially blame Steve Blum

And if I may be so bold, if you're right and you have no question in your mind that what you are saying/doing is right, then why are you so reluctant to sign your name to your comments?

do you know where you are

you're in an anonymous secrets community

Thank you <3

Re: Are there any men watching?

Well obvs if you make a point while anon you're automatically wrong. Automatically. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

I think they just want me to let them stalk my profile info for wankbait or something, lol.

[identity profile] goobbledigook.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
I don't recall ever mentioning davidsheppard or his sexuality on my post.

Their sexualities are irrelevant so long as they aren't what they're objectifying, ie gay males.

And I'm pretty sure she meant fetishizing of gay people done by straight people, sometimes people get messed up in semantics.

[identity profile] mondaisenshi.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
Let me just say this:

Misandry exists.

It's generally a non-issue when compared to misogyny. But as I said, hate is still hate and is never okay.

Re: Are there any men watching?

[identity profile] mondaisenshi.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
No. But there are two issues I have with anon comments: one being that good friends of mine have been stalked from one community to about five others and trolled for things that have no place in the current context, and this can't be tracked when they're always trolling anonymous, thus making every community unsafe and unwelcoming for them when they did not deserve it; Another being, I honestly like to know how many people I'm in an argument with. Because there is a difference between having one back-and-forth argument with one person and a massive argument against twenty.

For the record, those are my two biggest issues with anon comments. In case you were wondering.

Re: Are there any men watching?

(Anonymous) 2011-10-25 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
if you can accept it's a complete nonissue compared to misogyny, why are you still here whining about it and pretending it's equally bad to be a misandrist as it is to be a misogynist

Re: Are there any men watching?

(Anonymous) 2011-10-25 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
this isn't some petty fandom drama that's going to follow you around like a gossip storm, i swear

this is just a couple of people being upset with your misogyny stanning and your refusal to listen to anyone posting anon

Re: Are there any men watching?

[identity profile] mondaisenshi.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
If you want to believe I'm a misogynist, that's fine. But you don't know me. And I don't have to prove or defend myself to you.

For the record, I think I generally do like you, as you seem to be eloquent and well-spoken, and while I see your defensiveness as excessive and somewhat hostile, I do know that you have reason to feel this way and I respect that.

we've got calling someone a "girl," "girly," "womanlike," "lady," "bitch," "cunt," "pussy," and on and on and on.

Yes, bitch and cunt and pussy are generally not ever seen as positive in any way. But I've got guy friends that would absolutely LOVE to be called girly, and I've got girl friends that would LOATHE being called manly. Those words in particular, I think, are less about the words themselves being negative and more about them being not what someone was aiming for in their appearance/behavior/etc. And generally the male equivalent does not carry the same weight, you're right. But that still doesn't make it okay. Misogyny started somewhere. It hasn't always been a problem. And while misandry is mostly a non-issue (though again, I feel that it does exist, though it is unquestionably barely a fraction of the problem that misogyny is), treating men like dirt just because there's no history to amplify the effect will, in fact, be the foundation that it currently lacks in being an act of sexism, by your definition.

And seriously, the day I take a man seriously when he gets up and starts talking about how feminists behave and how feminists should conduct themselves is the day I give up any and all respect for myself as a feminist.

How about when people get up and point out when someone's behavior is excessive and hurtful? Should it necessarily matter that someone is a feminist if their words are hurtful? Should it matter if the person being insulted is male?

I mean, really, I'm not trying to say that deleted-account is right. But it does bother me when some people - not you, from my limited view here, but some people - use causes such as feminism to act however they want and disregard the consequences because their demographic has been mistreated in the past. It bothers me when the name of equality is used to torment and attack perfectly nice people; that just because someone happens to be part of the "privileged" majority, they don't get any voice, even in defending their own words or actions.

It also bothers me that these conversations cannot, physically CANNOT, take place without the words "privilege" and "ignorance" showing up. The words have been used and abused by so many people that they've begun to lose all meaning. Even when used correctly, they've begun to feel like a meme gone wrong...

if you're talking about who i think you are lol

your friends are homophobes, that's why people hate them

hth

Thanks, love, but they're not. My father and sister are, and I'm trying to make sure that my niece and nephew are not. But I don't generally make friends with homophobes. Thanks for playing.

Re: Are there any men watching?

Go join a feminist101 community or something, seriously. You are so completely clueless it hurts. Learn a little something about context and oppression.

Re: Are there any men watching?

(Anonymous) 2011-10-25 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
but you are

i won't name names, but you know exactly who i'm talking about, i'm sure

chances are you defend them the same way you defend davidshephard.

Re: Are there any men watching?

[identity profile] mondaisenshi.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Again, it's nice of you to hear things I never said. I have listened to all of the anon statements directed at me, thank you, and most of the time when I ask a question like that I really am asking a question. It was answered, and I appreciate it.

But, I also do appreciate you listening to my words, as per your first sentence, and I do hope that you're right and that this debate stays where it belongs - right here. I'll gladly listen to what people have to say to me if they speak to me with even a hint of respect, treating me like a person. But I hate to see people trolling me and stalking me and taking such a low road over something like this when - even if I do deserve to be lectured and corrected and given a stern talking to - I don't deserve torment.

Re: Are there any men watching?

[identity profile] mondaisenshi.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Have fun pointing that finger. Enjoy your delusion.

Re: Are there any men watching?

[identity profile] mondaisenshi.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, okay.

Re: Are there any men watching?

(Anonymous) 2011-10-25 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
i said it wouldn't follow you everywhere like high school gossip

that doesn't mean i'm never going to bring it up again if it's relevant

and no, that's not stalking and trolling. it's kind of offensive you'd compare people calling you out on asshattery to stalking, actually.

and i find it interesting that you find it so important i treat you like a person, but you don't think it's wrong at all for someone like davidshephard to treat women as less than people. i find it amusing that you're okay with people using misogynist terms like bitch to dehumanize women when you're apparently very concerned about respect.

Re: Are there any men watching?

[identity profile] mondaisenshi.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
Because hate is hate. It's never okay. I mean, genocide is..... insanely worse than a single murder. But that doesn't make murder okay. Yes, the analogy is convoluted and exaggerated to a level that throws the issue out of proportion. But the point is, just because it's not AS bad doesn't mean it's not bad.

Re: Are there any men watching?

(Anonymous) 2011-10-25 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
i think even you don't know what the fuck you're trying to argue anymore

Re: Are there any men watching?

[identity profile] mondaisenshi.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
I'm honestly not that concerned with the respect I may or may not get. If you don't show me respect, hey, that's your prerogative. I didn't earn it from you. But don't expect me to acknowledge you if you don't show me a SLIVER of respect, either.

And, I'm not sure I can say this any more than I have: Davidshephard seemed like an ass. But he didn't seem like a misogynistic ass. He seemed like the type to treat EVERYONE with sarcastic attitude and name-calling. Forgive me if I missed something, I'll gladly eat my words if there's honestly a point where he treated men and women unequally. But that's what I saw from what I read.

And, if you want to talk to me about bullshit, hey, that's fine. If you want to call me on something I've said in fandomsecrets, that's fine, too. But maybe you could avoid following people to other communities and start shit based on conversations here, or vice-versa. That's the part that bothers me.

Re: Are there any men watching?

[identity profile] mondaisenshi.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I definitely do. Maybe you don't know what I've been saying this entire time.
