Oh come on, stupid comparison is stupid because the person is still alive. They may not be living, but they're alive.

Look to the response above.

I'm really quite shocked that you think there is much of a difference there.

So by your logic, it's okay to put someone who is brain dead into a coffin and bury them

Okay then

(Anonymous) 2011-10-25 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Strawman argument. Nuff said.

[identity profile] childings.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
You're the one making the argument that a breathing person is not alive.

So why wouldn't it be okay?

(Anonymous) 2011-10-25 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
I never made that argument.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-25 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Could say the same thing about yours too.

Stop whinging that you didn't think of both sides of the coin-flip point you were trying to make.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-25 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Who is whining? Aren't we just discussing something?

(Anonymous) 2011-10-25 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
When you call strawman argument, it sounds like you've just gotten caught, and are trying to find a way out. Sounds a lot like whinging to me.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-25 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Nope. Just pointing out a strawman argument.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-25 08:42 am (UTC)(link)
Awwww! How nice of you! Please, keep doing it, we're all entertained.

No,but by most of the medical world it would be considered okay to unplug them from the machine that's keeping them alive and then put them in the coffin. Hell, they'd be dead long before anyone could physically put them into the ground. So that is just pointless hypothetical, because it could never actually happen.

[identity profile] vulgarweed.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
It used to happen a lot. Probably still does in some places. Premature burials were not uncommon before modern embalming methods - see the Poe short story, that was based on reality. (Most horrifying thing he ever wrote, IMO, and that is saying something)

[identity profile] bellerose11788.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
If you took a brain dead person off of life support the person would die...so yes that would be ok.

[identity profile] weekendoffender.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
There's a huge difference. A corpse is not a person, it's a chunk of flesh & bone, a carcase no different than a cow's. There's no brain activity, no conscious, no vital signs, nothing. Because it's dead.

Alive - a person.
Dead - a corpse.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-25 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
Someone in a vegetative state could be almost in the same position except be kept alive by a machine.

So to get you back on track, what would be the difference between having a sex with someone who is dead or in an vegetative state? Are they able to give consent to it? Nope. Don't think so.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-25 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
A dildo can't consent, but that doesn't mean it's rape.
ext_81845: penelope, my art/character (Default)

[identity profile] childings.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
This kind of reminds me of that Sesame Street segment I saw as a kid where they were trying to teach you the difference between dead and alive (ROCK = NOT ALIVE)

Obviously you don't get it but okay

I'm not saying that being in a vegetative state is an ideal way to live, but it's still a live person

(Anonymous) 2011-10-25 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
See the thread with Kallanda Lee.

You are so stuck on this idea that I don't know the difference between a dead body and a vegetative state. Of course one is breathing and one is not.

But can either or those consent to the sex act? Nope.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-25 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
Is anyone saying that a corpse can consent? You're the one comparing living people with dead bodies, saying that it's possible to rape a non-living being and saying we should apply the same rules about rape to dead bodies and people in a vegetative state.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-25 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
No one is saying that a corpse can consent, because they can't.

And yup, I'm saying exactly what you stated in your last line because the similarity is that they can't consent.

It's obviously a different opinion from yours, so I guess we end this with I agree to disagree.

[identity profile] helenadax.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
"what would be the difference between having a sex with someone who is dead or in an vegetative state?"

Worms.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-25 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Ummm tapeworms can exist within you right now.

[identity profile] weekendoffender.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
If it has vital signs, it's alive. If not, it's dead. Once it's dead, there's no consent needed.

That's the way I see it & if you don't agree then that's cool. But that's my opinion & nothing you say will change that.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-25 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
That's fine. We're just here to discuss things, anyways.
