Omg, I wish women would stop this nonsense. You really aren't that special. I use female oriented nicknames and usually a female avatar if I have the choice. I never hide my gender and if someone calls me a guy, then I correct them. It really isn't that big of a deal. I go on video game forums that have a high majority of male posters and I've never had a problem with it. The only time I've witnessed someone have a problem is if the female poster did it to draw attention to herself, negative or positive. You only get problems if you act like a dramatic snob who thinks they deserve special treatment based on their gender. Honestly, they don't give two fucks what gender you are if you've got something decent to say and can add to the conversation. You might get hit on, but that's not isolated to just women online. If a guy pops up on a forum that the majority of the users are female there will undoubtedly be some flirtation going on there too. It's just not a big deal and stop crying and playing the victim.

Why so whiny, anon? Why do you feel the need to complain about this? Seriously, look at your comment. It boils down to:

- You're not special, so stop acting as if you are.
- I've never seen women getting in trouble for their gender.
- The only ones who do are women who want to get attention for their gender.
- Men get hit on online too.
- You're crying and playing the victim.

Seriously. Is it that hard for you to realise that your experiences =/= other people's, and that the many people who get shit for being female in male-dominated areas aren't just making things up? And for that matter, how come you're posting that in response to an OP who committed the dreadful sin of...not correcting people when they got her gender wrong, partly for the lulz and partly because she'd get different treatment if she did. Oh the horror.

Because it's fucking stupid, that's why. I'm really sick and tired of women putting themselves on this pedestal that they're so much better than guys. Guess what? We're not. We both fuck up. We both do stupid shit. And we both act the same way in different situations. If you want to leave your gender neutral, then do so, but do it because you don't give a shit. Don't do it because you're afraid of getting lynched on solely because of your gender. That's fucking stupid. If some jerk insults you then don't take it so personally. That same jerk probably insulted a bunch of people before you. And I say my experience is relevant because I've been around it for at least a decade. I have way more guy friends then and now than I have friends that are girls. Some of them have been jerks, but most of them honestly couldn't care less. And it's frankly why I prefer the company of guys over girls because they really don't give a shit. I know they would tell me to let this shit go, but it drives me up the wall why some women act like this when it's so stupid.

Why? It happens. That it hasn't happened to you doesn't mean it doesn't happen, because it does. So how is that stupid?

I've been "at it" for over two decades. And I have "way more" guy friends then girls (IRL virtually all of them are, actually). If this is our bellwether for whose experiences get to be relevant, I win. So, listen up. This does not make you or me superior to or better than other women. It does not mean their company is in any way inferior to a man's. Were that true, why would they hang out with us? We're both women too. It means my hobbies, interests, and tendencies are male dominated. Women who are different than us are just as valid, valuable, and cool. Many of them also "don't really give a shit".

But if you hang out with them because they "don't really give a shit" and thus you prefer their company, do you not see the irony in flying into a shrill, petulatant, whiny fit over how other people express themselves on the internet means that they should by your own logic not prefer your company? Because by the evidence we have here, you are the perfect example of one of those "some women act(ing) like this when it's so stupid".

Er, so do I. And a many of the female posters accused of "drawing attention to themselves" are women who mentioned their gender in passing on a thread in which all of the male posters were doing the same.

But yeah, agreeing with anon that holy shit is your whinging ever disproportionate to an amusing cartoon about not correcting people about gender. Stop crying about it and accept that people's experiences are not all identical. Apparently it hasn't ever affected you, so why are you whining?
