...What WERE you expecting? O_O;

I'm one of the more critical fans of this series and was astounded by a 13 minute flash that pretty much drove us head first into the climax of the story. It made me super excited for the next update for the first time since I started reading this thing.

I'm not asking to be mean. I'm seriously wondering what you could have been expecting that made this mediocre? ._.;

My trolldar is never very good, but I'm kinda getting a blip from the idea that you "don't dare make him feel like his efforts were all for naught." Like the sentiments of one nitpicky reader would really deal such a devastating blow to the Husster's confidence? What, are you his mom?

4/10, because I'm slow on the uptake and spent some time wondering if you'd watched the same freaking flash video.

This is Hussie. He drinks soley from the tears of frustrated crying fans. One reader saying they hate something is, to use the 4chan metaphor (since there's one of those secrets here today), pissing in an ocean of piss.

Heck, that's even the case for here. How many directly negative homestruck secrets have their been? That doesn't stop him, this wont.

At first I was disappointed, but that was because I was comparing it to other flashes like 'Make Her Pay' and 'Jade: Enter'. But it really is a good EOA, and heck if it doesn't make me excited for act 6.

Maybe because it was a end of act flash and it had to cover so much material had something to do with it? I dunno.

agreed. if you have to write up a huge description on tumblr afterwards because 95% of the people did not understand what they'd just watched, then you dont have a decent grasp of storytelling and narrative, i'm sorry to say. this isnt the first time people have complained of "what the hell just happened" either.

Making us wait that long wasn't the smartest thing to do either. I forgot what had happened during Act 5.2.

I think it should have been released it short increments over time, not delayed two months. Would've cut down on the filesize too and not killed newgrounds.

Homestuck is confusing (news at six). He's written recaps before, which really help me to understand the story, and I can go back and say "oh, that's what he meant!". Also, nothing he explained was a great mystery, but I think some people (like me) were too caught up in the flash to realize what was really going on in some scenes.

On the contrary, I think he's a great storyteller. ymmv on his work, of course, but I think it's safe to say he is talented.

Seconding the question of "what were you expecting"?

Personally, I thought the flash was fantastic. I squeed and fangirled and adored it and loved that it was released all at once. It was a great climax with wonderful art and music and plot twists.

Not trying to bash your opinion, just sharing mine, and curious about what you didn't like about it and what you had been hoping for.

I can't say anything against the quality -- it was an excellent piece of work. Hussie and the art and music teams did a fantastic job.

Plot-wise, though? I can understand why it might be underwhelming or disappointing (especially if you're a carapaces fan, hoo boy). Also there were some major points that I didn't fully grasp until I'd watched it a few more times, because there was so much going on that there's really no way you could "get" it all after just one viewing. I've never needed the recaps before, but man I think there'd still be stuff I wouldn't have gotten without Hussie's writeups.

At first, I a little felt the same as you, but on reflection, I actually loved all the plot and visuals in the flash. My problem was the music. I loved the music for descend and make her pay etc so much that I was expecting more music that swept me up and made me feel deeply, and this flash's music didn't do it for me as much.

There were small bits here and there that kind of distracted me, like the animation when God Tier Jade is first using her powers and when PM is raising her sword that felt really unnatural and strange to me -- I kind of prefer it when Hussie uses his own art in his animations, because it seems to be animated more naturally.

But that flash did everything it needed to do for me. It evoked some pretty hefty emotional responses (I was absolutely heartbroken all day because of what happened to WV, not gonna lie), it got me eager for the next update, and it renewed my love of the series. I'd say all in all, it was a success. Sorry to hear you didn't think so too, OP.

Personally the flash surpassed my expectations and then some, but there's nothing wrong with feeling underwhelmed by it. Different fans, different expectations, different opinions on what makes a Homestuck flash good.
