I was a bit disappointed too, OP. But they both say that it's the reason they've worked so well together for so long.

Besides, if you follow them on Twitter or have seen them live, it's clear that they genuinely like and support each other. They just don't have lots in common outside of their work - they're completely different personalities, after all.

They've never said that they hate each other - they've said that they just don't have that many common interests outside of "work" so they don't spend a whole bunch of time hanging out. Since they've been successfully working together for over 30 years including a lot of touring, I expect they've spent more time in each other's company than most married couples. Don't you think, in a way, that it would be more weird if they still spent every pre-show evening together in their dressing rooms watching cable TV together and days off going for long walks along the beach? Particularly when Penn is married with two kids and they both have their own side projects and things going on.

As far as I'm concerned, working with someone for 30 years out of choice = friends. They say they don't have anything in common, but they obviously have enough in common to be able to stand being around each other for over a quarter of a decade.

My only comment for this secret is the strange desire I discovered (after watching their appearance on Top Chef) to hear Teller actually speak. I...have never even been a fan of their stuff, and yet I wants it like crazy.

They spend, like, 300+ days a year together anyway, though. I totally understand them not wanting to be around each other for the handful of days off that they get. I mean, it's not like they hate each other or anything, but when you see that same person almost every day for years on end, I see why they don't spend a lot of time together outside that environment.

Penn has said in interviews that in terms of their business partnership, they're soulmates, and that while they didn't begin their partnership based on friendship, over the years Teller is like a best friend to him.

He's also said that they do see each other socially, but maybe only once or twice a year. When you work with someone so often for nearly three decades straight, I guess socializing outside of work really isn't necessary. They've got a close bond that might not fit within the conventional ideas of friendship, but hell... it's close enough.
