I think it depends on the fandom you're in. And ror some reason, it seems like most of the gay fics I read in the manga/anime fandoms involve anal sex, but many of the western fandoms have a decent (though not really an overwhelming) amount of slash fic that dont have anal (I have no idea why this is, but it's just something I've noticed).

Off the top of my head, I know I've read a some good frottage/oral/intercural/what have you in the X-men and Social Network fandoms for example. I wish I had some links on hand though

I think this is a spectacular comment of pointless whining. Obviously if there's no anal sex involved (whether between two guys or a girl and a guy) then it's sort of obvious that lube/prep is not required (with the exception of vaginal sex wherein the woman can't naturally lubricate herself)?

Anal is the only kind of sex that people commonly think you need lube and prep for. No one ever thinks oral sex always hurts without lube.

No... it says that most people assume that PENETRATION is going to occur if you're lubing and prepping. One doesn't normally require prep for a handjob. Lube, maybe, but I'm not sure what prep would be required. And since the OP did specify SLASH porn and not het porn, there are only so many holes to work with.

It's not exactly an insane leap of logic to assume s/he was implying anal sex.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic (and if you are, I apologise), but uh. Lube/prep can be required with any kind of sex. Even if the vagina-bearer in the relationship can lubricate hirself. (Not all vagina-bearers are women.) Even if the sex isn't penetrative. I mean, obvs, YMMV, but...*shrug*

I'm curious (and I mean this honestly, not rudely) as to how lube/prep would be required for non-penetrative sex. Vaginal and anal penetrative, yes, since like I said, not everyone has loose and wet orafices (if you'll pardon the crudity), but... if there's no penetration... what are you prepping and where are you putting the lube?!

Even if all you're doing is rubbing/jerking someone off, the friction can be pretty...unpleasant if you're not slick. So sometimes lube can be helpful even with only surface contact, as it were, happening.

Plus, when I hear "prep", what I generally think of is foreplay in general--making sure the other person is actually aroused and ready for contact, rather than just jumping straight to getting each other off. So for me, say, when I think of "prep" in terms of nonpenetrative sex, I mostly mean (possibly TMI?) the kissing and nongenital touching involved with making sure my girlfriend is wet enough and aroused enough that it won't just be painful or unpleasant when we actually go for the genital touching, y'know? Prep, to me, applies to the entire body, not just to making sure one person's orifice is loose and wet enough for fingers/cocks/toys/tongues/whatever they'll be penetrating with (if you'll also pardon the crudity XD).

That's...sort of a long answer. And it probably hinges largely on my experiences and my interpretation of terms. But that's what I meant, anyway. ^^

re: handjobs: this is one of the acts where uncut men generally have it easier than circumcised men. That's one of the things that the foreskin is FOR--providing some extra give and sensitivity and movement, and directing pre-cum towards lubrication purposes.

Pretty sure the OP was referring to specific fics, not just all slash, but I must say I agree. I feel like that's considered, like, the main/obvious/inevitable step for every m/m pair, and I seem to remember Stephen Fry saying in one of his books that anal sex isn't as common as straight people think it is; I think he said it occurs not that much more often with gays than with straights. But that's just one person's opinion, I guess.

Well that probably has to do with common stereotypes associated with homosexual men. A guy says he's gay and immediately most people go "OMFG THIS MAN WANTS BUTTSEX". It doesn't mean it's correct; it just means that a lot of people THINK it is.

Very true. And I think that's also kinda related to the misconception that coming out = INSTANTLY READY FOR TONS OF SEX. Noooot so much.
