People skip prepping?? But... it's the hottest part of most fic... Or at least IMO. I love writing that part. I love having one character teasing the fuck out of another character with just prep. :(

*headdesk* Different people have all kinds of different experiences with anal sex. Some real people really do have anal sex without lube. And enjoy it, and prefer it that way. (Of course, they're mostly people who have a lot of experience and are with partners they know and trust; they're not having anal sex for the first time in a stalled elevator with someone they've never had sex with before, or whatever the Lubeless-Fucking Trope Of the Moment is.)

And of course not all slash porn has to include anal sex . . .

Not to be crude, but - considering I’ve had the pleasure to enjoy anal sex in real life with little to no prep, it isn’t necessarily omg 100% mandatory for everyone. It’s quite possible, in fact! ;) I wouldn’t do it as a first time person jumping into it, of course, but it is quite doable and enjoyable for both parties if done correctly.

Everyone complains about this, but I actually prefer it to just be implied if possible a lot of the time. It can just seem so obligatory and take me out of the moment when the action is interrupted with a detailed description of the characters having to take a moment to get out and apply lube. And it's especially awkward to me if the couple's doing it spontaneously in a place where they have to improvise or it's kind of unbelievable that one of them would just have some with them or kept nearby. Jeez, in that case just let them do something without penetration.

Of course it's impossible to take seriously when it's a blatantly, ridiculously unrealistic scene with two guys just going for it obviously with no preparation and acting like it's not the least bit painful. But sometimes I get the idea that the common complaints about this kind of thing make some writers so careful to write it realistically it just reads as something kind of...procedural. LOL.

I learned this the hard way. I wrote a fic where one guy gets reunited with someone and they have "omg you're alive sex." I was trying to go for intense but instead, my beta said without lube/prep, no one would focus on why I was trying for. So I rewrote it.

Much has been said on the subject of how to prepare a guy for anal penetration. Many a rant has been raved in response to stories that don't include (in the ranter's view) enough prep action. The "one finger, two fingers, three fingers, dick" has pretty much become de rigeur in slash. Well, kids, it ain't necessarily so.

The need for careful stretching and loosening depends on a lot of things. How relaxed the guy is, the level of trust between the parties involved, experience, and alcohol level are just a few. Some guys need the whole shebang, from tongue to fingers to large envelopes full of cash before they're ready for action. Others require only the most cursory of preparation, such as dropping their pants. Judicious application of the tongue can make the most apprehensive of butts eager and willing.

So if you want to go the whole hog, and describe in loving detail how each finger slips in, go right ahead. But when the guys are hot and the pace is frantic, feel free to cut right to the chase...

Meh. It really depends on the individual. Is the person really tight? Do they prefer it rough? Is the guy's dick really big? Are they a newbie?

And to me, it's just fucking fiction anyway so it doesn't bother me as much. I really get the whole scissoring thing though..

If the characters are long-term partners, it doesn't bother me. Some people don't need much preparation, and I trust long-term partners to know that.

But first-time fic, or where one of the partners is inexperienced - yeah, you'll send me running to the hills if you just have one of them go for it without preparation. Even if that was the point (e.g., hatesex, dubcon/noncon, etc.) I just...it would HURT, and I can't handle the mental images.

Also, count me in as one of the people who thinks preparation is often the hottest part of fic. FINGERS. Also rimming. <3333

Pretty much this. The idea of going dry and un-stretched during sex instantly dampens the enjoyment of fic for me, especially if they just push in; all I can think of is 'ouch, ow OW!' D:

And prep can be damn hot, considering it's so good but still not exactly what you want, and keeps building things up. Rimming in fic makes me go HNNGH like nothing else.

Preparation is by no means necessary. Not to be blunt, but do you "prep" before you take a big poop? No, you just relax that sphincter and let it happen. Some people have more trouble relaxing on command and need some prep, but it is definitely not universal, especially for people who are used to being anally penetrated. (Relaxing both on command is a bit of a learned skill.) Lube isn't necessary, either, but the level of comfort and roughness (and risk) obviously changes.

Oh FFS. It's really tiresome that so many readers got this bizarre rigid superstition from some rule book somewhere that "No one should do anal without prep EVER cause it HUUUUUURRTS" and continue to believe that's always the case for every character in every story, regardless of how many people with actual experience in real life tell them otherwise.

I appreciate all the "no, no necessarily" posters here, but unfortunately, it never seems to make a significant dent in the misinformation.

I know people may say that porn is all-fantasy and things like that don't matter...but yeah. I can .barely read slash that doesn't have any prepping in it. At least slash HAS prep in it though. I hardly see any het smut anymore that has any sort of prep before shoving that dick in.

But I'm also totally aware, as people here are complaining about, that not everyone needs to lube up before sex. But I see a lot of fics don't make it seem like they're real careful about penetration("and he shoved his dick in with the force of a thousand suns" type writing) and it seems painful to me regardless of whether the person being penetrated needed lube or not.

I can believe the no prep part, because if they have anal sex fairly regularly, they probably won't be tight enough to need the 'one finger, two fingers, scissoring' treatment. Lube though, I have a hard time believing anal would be comfortable without it. I just generally handwave that and choose to believe the lubing happened off-screen.

Anal sex exists without lube. You can have anal sex everyday and never get stretched. Some people don't feel the pain, some people don't care about it. Some people need the preparation, some people don't. Some people, like my fiancée, don't even like anal with lube.

I've had anal sex without lube plenty of times heat of the moment type of thing. Actually last time lube was used it made everything to slippery and he couldn't fit. There is pain but to me it's slight and there is always pain for me initially when I'm penetrated vaginally or anally so pain and pleasure walk hand in hand for me.
