Funny there's a Yuna secret when I was tweeting with some friends about X today :D

I love Yuna, and yes, I adore her for her hidden strength.

I don't know if I would call her the strongest, because FF as a whole has a lot of really strong women, but she's definitely in the top ten. People who don't see her strength are stupid.

Never really understood the whole "why aren't there more feminine heroes, not all female characters have to be action girls to be strong - BLARGH YUNA SUCKS" thing. Seems to me like she's the perfect example of the former. I always loved her.

Her character is proof alone the game is about her and not Tidus.

Yuna, to me, at least before she went more than a little bonkers in X-2 (and she did, Tidus was hardly an ideal person to emulate, especially when she had a perfectly good one to begin with), was more or less of the mindset of "This is my destiny. Why fight it? I'm going to do the best I can because what I do is special and helps people.". That in itself is a form of bravery, yes. However, it also comes with the opposite side of the double-edged sword: it means she's also very susceptible to suggestion. If someone of a high enough position were to tell her she had to do this for x and y reasons, she would, because that's part of who she is. She's an empty vessel until someone drops something into her. It's not a huge flaw, certainly one she managed to overcome to a degree in the second game (by branching out and doing something she wanted to do, even if it was fueled by wanting to find Tidus in her own time) and not one I hold against her.

All of that said, I loved the secondary job of Summoners in X as being the ones to usher the spirits to the other side. I loved that part.

Ah, this is interesting. You're absolutely correct. "Marrying Seymour will make Spira happy? Sure, I'll do that." Cue near-disaster. This flaw of hers makes her an even better, more realistic and well-rounded character, I think.

I don't know if she's the strongest one, but I really like her

There are a few FF heroines that are more than ready to die, though. Aeris and all three FFXIII girls embarked in suicide journeys, for example.

But for Aerith, at least, she didn't know she was going to die. It was a critical part of her death.

She's infinitely better than some other characters in the game (and the series) for sure, but dammit the game just would not stop beating me around the head with the Jesus metaphor and I lost a bit of patience with her story after that.

I'm going to interpret this quite literally, because of something that happens EVERY FREAKING TIME I play:

I get to the Calm Lands and knowing there are going to be a clusterfwegh of boss battles I rotate in Yuna to level her. Of course, the best way to do that is to have her summon Bahamut and let him blow doods away... which leads to Yuna monopolizing all the EXP and her sphere levels going THROUGH THE ROOF. Eventually she's crossed into Lulu's section of the grid and picking up offensive spells left and right and just laying waste to everything.

Then I get Nirvana and... uh... yeah, everything's out the window. Forget the Magus Sisters and everyone else, Yuna's a lethal force on her own. No Aeons? No problem! Just clobber that Skulltula-poser of a final boss to death! *KLONG!*

That really happened. And she WTFpwnt the Weapon bosses the same way, too.

Yay, more Yuna love. I've already expressed my unreserved adoration for this character in other comment threads, so I'll just chime in to say I agree with this strongly. I can't comment on other FF heroines, but I admire Yuna so much.

She actually made X bearable for me and I found myself putting her in my party and focusing on her a lot. She's one of my favourite characters now and she saved X for me because I assumed it would be wholly about Tidus. It is in a way but it seemed the story was focused more on Yuna than Tidus. I could care less for him; I think the voice acting really put me off of his character than anything else.

She also reminds me of Aeris and I love the white mage type girls. =)

I am going drop into the minority it seems-I couldn't stand Yuna. To me, she was nothing more than the typical cookie cutter sacrificial maiden. She was completely unselfish and came across as not being able to think for herself. I didn't consider her strong, to me, she had just got caught up in doing what everyone expected her to do-which was, follow in her fathers footsteps and bring about another calm. Her lack of thought for herself made me dislike her and her willingness to just go along with what everyone told her would make other people happy made her weak to me, such as the marriage to Seymore.

The only time I genuinely liked her was when she realized the process was only meant to bring about false hope and refused to go through with it-and by that time, it was about goddamn time she realized what a bad idea it was, between realizing how corrupt Yevon was and the fact that it was continuously mentioned Sin always comes back.
